Kansas State at Utah – (Saturday Afternoon Card)
Time of year where the board gets scanned for matchups where one team is descending while the opponent is ascending. Voila! Have one right here in Big 12 country. Getting the counter point concern out of the way first…yes Kansas State does need this win to get to the magic number of 6 for Bowl eligibility. End of concerns. Every other arrow indicator or bright green “go” signal points directly in favor of Utah here. Utah scoreboard production has been off the charts L3G scoring 53, 45 & 55 vs. Colorado, Cincinnati & @ Baylor. The offense in general but the run offense in particular has been insanely good all season other than the Texas Tech game. Kansas State defense is nowhere near the caliber of the elite Texas Tech group. Furthermore the KSU front 7 personnel was weakened even further last week when they lost the unit’s best player in MLB Austin Romaine was their leading tackler & play caller. Here they face an elite Utah OL (candidate for Joe Moore award) that has pair of likely 1st round NFL draft choices. They’ve paved the way for 278.4 rypg which is #2 among FBS teams and they rank #8 by PFF analytics in pass blocking. Severe step up in class for Kansas State which struggled vs. Big 12 doormat Oklahoma State getting outgained 373-284 (373 was 74 above OSU season average). K-State only won by score of 14-6 despite +4 in turnover margin. Wildcats offense was further depleted this week with the loss of their best WR Jayce Brown. Sporadic play of QB Avery Johnson always a weekly issue and without his #1 option who he has had great chemistry with likely makes what’s already problematic even worse. This situation & setting doesn’t seem like a successful spot for the erratic Johnson. Rice-Eccles road test against salty Utah defense out to atone for last week’s uncharacteristic performance with their targets set on limiting & confusing Johnson should not be advantageous. Utah has outscored opponents by an enormous 34.7 points over their L3G, 21.3 at home this season and 22.3 overall this season making this a comfortable price to take a strong stance with.

Minnesota @ Northwestern – (Saturday Early Card)
Played Oregon team total “over” last week at home vs. Minnesota capitalizing $$$ on a constant situational weakness. Minnesota on the road vs. upper level opponents is now 0-3 su & ats getting outscored by an average of 35.4 ppg (41.7-6.3). Eliminate that criteria and Minnesota is 5-0 straight up against every other FBS opponent they’ve played. Here they are getting over a field goal which from a betting standpoint makes this a very likeable spot. They’re basically a mirror image of Northwestern with a slightly better run game and passing attack. Neither side is explosive…they’re style is close to the vest and let they defensive strengths guide them. In such a narrow margin of matchup advantages taking the plus price provides some cushion. Have to factor in “bounce back” & regression angles here which do favor Minnesota. Golden Gophers take massive step down in class of offensive opposition and they’re in redemption mode off last week’s dismal effort. Positive motivational aspect of HC P.J. Fleck helpful too as again Minnesota has bounced back from their first 2 lopsided losses with a pair of wins. Northwestern meanwhile potentially overvalued here off last week’s 24-22 near miss vs. heavily favored Michigan. However the Wildcats were outgained by a whopping 251 total yards (496-245) and they were the beneficiaries of a +5 in turnovers. Game style is in comfort zone of each side so riding slightly favorable Minnesota edges in setup they’ve proven to be successful in this season.

Over 30 sportsbooks on and off the strip, plus the famous Las Vegas Gambler's Book Club and newsstands nationwide, carried the publication, which expanded his recognition. He was subsequently invited into Las Vegas' most prestigious handicapping contests of that time, the Stardust Invitational in 1996 and 2004 and the Sunset Station Invitational in 2000. A veteran of sports handicapping radio, Rob began in 1992 by co-hosting a weekly Friday night show at 840 AM KVEG. He went on to do numerous live shows as a guest analyst from casino sportsbooks across the Las Vegas Valley, working with a litany of respected hosts and the most recognized handicappers in the business. Rob finally settled in as one of the mainstays on the daily Vegas Sportswire betting show, which ultimately became the famed Sportsmemo Radio Show and subsequent Podcast. His expertise has been heard on radio stations across the country over the years as he has done a multitude of guest analyst segments. Rob joined WagerTalk in the summer of 2020 and has quickly become a prominent member of their world-class handicapping roster. Rob is a Connecticut native, and after spending 11 years in Las Vegas from 1991-2002, he now resides outside of Philadelphia with his wife.
