Brann are W2 D0 L3 at home, but their underlying numbers suggest otherwise, as they are tied for 3rd best home xG (1.86/game) and also have the 3rd best home xGA (1.16/game), which is a +0.70 xG difference/game.
They are now hosting Start on Sunday, who are W0 D1 L6 on the road, scoring 7 goals and conceding 21. Start have the 3rd worst xG on the road (1.15/game) and also the 2nd most xGA on the road (1.99/game), which is a -0.84 xG difference/game.
The big news here is the change in coach for Brann, who brought back Eirik Horneland, who coached the team for 3 VERY successful years, in which Brann won the Norwegian Cup in 2021/22,won the 2022 2nd division title by a landslide, then finished back to back 2nd places in the top tier (and just barely missed the title in 2024).
Huge boost for Brann here, who are looking to restart the season under the coach that basically brought them here. Brann win this, the question is by how much. They do leave open spaces at the back, but their offense can destroy a soft Start defense.
Spread is set at a tricky 1.25 but we are going to take the -1 Alternative Line here in case Brann win by just a goal (in which case our bet is a Push). I don’t want to bastardize this play by adding a total or a play from another game.
