On the surface, starting just-added Joe Milton at QB looks a desperate roll of the dice for the Eagles, and it probably is. Though with emergency QBs, it's always good to have one with some mobility like Milton, and many were surprised in preseason that Jerry Jones opted for Sam Howell as Dak Prescott's backup instead of Milton, who impressed in August and didn't look out of depth in brief relief appearances behind Dak a year ago.
Meanwhile, it's a curious development with Giants QB JJ McCarthy, who seems to be under less pressure with the G-Men than with the Vikings, where as a high first-round pick in 2024 he was constantly compared to draft classmates Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Bo Nix. Now. however, all he has to do is be better than Jameis Winston, which he has shown quite conclusively the past two games when passing for nearly 500 yards in just a bit over five quarters of action. THE PLAY: Atlanta Falcons +3.0 (100)
Yes, Cincy is winning games lately, but not impressively, and not against much, laboring past the likes of the Dolphins, Lamar Jackson-less Ravens, and Titans in this three-game win streak featuring just one spread cover. A betetr effort will be required to see off the Falcons.
Atlanta might have preferred some locale other than Madrid this week, though anywhere there isn't a torrential downpour like last week at Tampa would probably suit the Falcons fine. Since Michael Penix returned to active duty, Atlanta was scoring better than 30 pg before getting waterlogged last week, and getting any points in what looks like a back-and-forth battle looks like good business. Bruce Marshall's name has become synonymous with The Gold Sheet. With a background in play-by-play work and sports information while in college, Bruce joined TGS in 1981 when hired by the legendary Mort Olshan. He learned the business by working alongside Mort and the other TGS handicappers and continues at TGS, where he has worn many hats over the years. Not only is Bruce the Executive Editor at TGS, he's also the Editor of Goldsheet.com and The Gold Sheet EXTRA!!! (a publication he helped launch in 1982), as well as serving as Editor-in-Chief of European Soccer Weekly.
Bruce's unique and colorful brand of football and basketball analysis, as well as informed commentary on the national and international sports scene, has made him an in-demand guest for many years on numerous sports talk radio and TV shows across the country. Bruce's vast array of editorial work is featured not only in the TGS publications, but various other print and online publications, and his analysis is often featured in the Las Vegas Review- Journal. Bruce, who is also in the midst of several book and media projects, combines all of his work while traveling between Virginia and his official hometown of Henderson, NV.
