THE PLAY: Pittsburgh -142
Penn State is 2-0 to start the season. However, they received a huge scare in their previous game during a 97-93 home win over UT-Chattanooga. Penn State didn't come close to covering as a double-digit favorite. The Moccasins exposed the Nittany Lions defensive shortcomings. Penn State opened the season with a blowout win over Canisius. It must be noted that KenPom has Canisius ranked #360 out of 365 Division 1 teams. Compare that to today's opponent the Pitt Panthers who are #65 and it's easy to decipher they're stepping up in class considerably.
Pittsburgh has gone 2-0 SU&ATS in their first 2 games and has been excellent defensively while doing so. They covered each of those games as a double-digit favorite. Although those wins came over #355 Rider (95-57) and #232 Buffalo (80-61) they won decisively on both occasions and were excellent defensively while doing so.
