THE PLAY: Detroit Red Wings +140

Having badly lost their home opener, the Red Wings should be highly motivated to make amends. The Wings know that they will face these same Leafs again, at Toronto, on Monday. That should provide further incentive to take care of business on home ice. They've held their own against the Leafs, winning five of the past nine meetings. I'm expecting a big effort and like their chances of cashing as a home underdog. 

THE PLAY: Utah -5.5 (-110)

The Sun Devils have the national ranking. Playing at home, the unranked Utes are favored for good reason. Recall that Utah was the ranked team when these teams met last season. Playing at home, Arizona State won by eight. Now the Utes will look to return the favor. The Utes got hammered by Texas Tech in a big game here a few weeks ago. They responded to embarrassment by crushing West Virginia the following week. That was followed by a bye. This is their first home game since the Texas Tech debacle and they're itching to make things right. Last year's loss at ASU provides even further motivation. Last time, the team met here, Utah won 55-3. This won't be anything like that but I do like the Utes' chances of pulling away for another double-digit win.
