THE PLAY: Total Under 6.5 (-135)
Goals were hard to come by on opening night. This one may not be as high-scoring as the high total suggests either. The Oilers do still have McDavid and Draisaitl. They're likely to be as dangerous as ever. However, even with that duo doing their thing, seven of the past nine meetings have finished with six goals or less. In this case, the Flames will be without a key offensive performer in Jonathan Huberdeau (62 points last season) and they'll also be missing forward Martin Pospisil. Both last season's meetings at Edmonton finished with five goals. Go with the under.
THE PLAY: Utah -5.5 (-110)
The Sun Devils have the national ranking. Playing at home, the unranked Utes are favored for good reason. Recall that Utah was the ranked team when these teams met last season. Playing at home, Arizona State won by eight. Now the Utes will look to return the favor. The Utes got hammered by Texas Tech in a big game here a few weeks ago. They responded to embarrassment by crushing West Virginia the following week. That was followed by a bye. This is their first home game since the Texas Tech debacle and they're itching to make things right. Last year's loss at ASU provides even further motivation. Last time, the team met here, Utah won 55-3. This won't be anything like that but I do like the Utes' chances of pulling away for another double-digit win.
