THE PLAY: Toronto Blue Jays Total Over 3.5 (-110) S Bieber (RHP), C Rodon (LHP) Must Start
2% Toronto Team Total Over (8:08 ET): My apologies to Blue Jays’ fans as I’ve spent the bulk of the season saying the Yankees were the best team in the American League East. That clearly has NOT been the case through the first two games of this series, which have seen the Jays total 23 runs off 29 hits to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best of five situation. They have more home runs (8) than strikeouts (7) in the series. Game 2 saw Toronto take a 12-0 lead before the Yankees recorded their first hit. While I’m not confident enough to bet them to finish off the sweep tonight (no Trey Yeasavage on the mound), I will bet on a Blue Jays offense that has led all of baseball in runs scored since the All-Star Break (5.5 per game), not to mention also ranks #1 in several other offensive categories (batting average, OPS, wRC+) during that time frame.
Now you may be saying that the Yankees have an ideal starting pitcher on the mound tonight to stop Toronto’s offensive onslaught. Of course, some people thought that about Max Fried going into Game 2 and he got bombed. Carlos Rodon gets the nod for Game 3. He’s allowed three runs or fewer in 11 consecutive starts for the Yanks. However, a 3.78 FIP isn’t as encouraging, nor is a 5.32 career ERA in the playoffs. Against Boston in the Wild Card Round, Rodon allowed three runs in six innings. This is a tougher matchup as evident by the fact Rodon allowed six runs (two unearned) in 10 IP vs. Toronto during the regular season with the same number of walks as strikeouts (8). Particularly troubling are Rodon’s career numbers when facing Vlad Guerrero Jr, who is already 6 for 9 with two HRs and six RBIs in the series. Against Rodon, Guerrero is 10 for 17 lifetime.
Remember that we only need four runs from the Blue Jays to cash this bet. They’re guaranteed all 27 outs and I haven’t even mentioned the struggling Yankees’ bullpen, which has an ERA of 9.00 and a WHIP of 1.76 so far this postseason. This was not a lights out unit during the regular season either. Since August 1st, Yankees’ relievers have posted the sixth highest ERA in all of baseball. 2% Toronto Team Total Over (Play at 3.5)

After spending the previous decade at Covers Experts, Bryan Power has wasted little time establishing himself here at WagerTalk. A consistent winner since first emerging on the scene back in 2011, Power didn't have a single losing calendar year in his first decade as a pro handicapper! In April & May of this year (2022), he went on an amazing 154-99-2 (+$41,322) with all plays! October is when he truly made his mark at WT, at one point cashing 22 of 26 plays (85%).
Power handicaps football (both NFL and college), basketball (NBA and college), MLB, Soccer (most major European leagues), and the UFC. He uses a personal set of power ratings, combined with situational handicapping, to make his selections. Multiple bets per day across multiple sports are the norm. Client plays are rated 3%-5%.
