THE PLAY: St. Louis Cardinals -130 Y Darvish (RHP), S Gray (RHP) Must Start
Ossie Smith backflip bobble head night in St. Louis teeing us up for a look on the Cardinals for Thursday's free pick. Yu Darvish is on the bump for the Padres and the 38 year old has had a bit of a rough go of it since returning from the IL. He has just a (8 to 7) Strikeout to Walk Ratio and an ERA north of 6 in the short sample size.
Sonny Gray is on the hill for the Red Birds and the former Vanderbilt Commodore is (9-4) on the year with a 125 strikeouts. He has been lights out at home, winning each of his last four home starts against some good lineups, including the Dodgers and Tigers. I think he has a real solid start.
The Cardinals bats show the advantage at the plate, particularly against righties. (The Cardinals rank in the top 10, compared to the Padres ranking in the bottom 10 across baseball vs righties.)
