The Under 163 is a sharp bet for the Atlanta Dream vs. Las Vegas Aces matchup. The Dream, despite potential fatigue from three straight road games before the All-Star break and travel to Las Vegas, boast the league’s second-best defensive rating over their last five games. Without Rhyne Howard, their defense improves significantly (92.1 defensive rating off the court vs. 99.5 on), as evidenced by limiting the Liberty to a season-low 79 points and the Sky to just 49 points in their last two games. The Aces, with six of their last seven games on the road, are also primed to focus on defense, as emphasized by coach Becky Hammon before the break.
Historical trends and matchup dynamics further support the Under. When the Aces are favored by less than five points or are underdogs, they are 9-1 to the under, with games averaging just 154.5 combined points. Both teams excel at limiting transition points, and the Dream lead the league over the last five games in preventing opponents from getting to the free-throw line, neutralizing the Aces’ strength in drawing fouls. Neither team has been shooting efficiently from three recently, and the Dream’s previous first leg of a back-to-back resulted in a game totaling 158 points, well below a 170-point line.
