Joint Chinese Super League leaders Shanghai Shenhua takes on eighth-place Shanghai Port on Wednesday morning in what’s set to be a fierce local derby between the two sides.

Shanghai Port has won three of their last four after knocking off upper-half Wuhan Yangtze River in their previous game.

Despite overall league placement this year, Shanghai Port goes into Wednesday’s game as the solid favorites and it’s easy to see why as Shanghai Shenhua has failed to win any of the previous ten games in this venue against Shanghai Port, and hasn’t claimed a victory on the road against them since 2013.

Shanghai Shenhua Boasting League’s Best Defense

Shanghai Shenhua is tied for the league’s lowest opponent scoring average this year at just 0.50 goals per game on average.

That corresponds with the data also this season with Shenhua keeping 50% of their opponents scoreless on the year so far (No. 2 in the league) and own the league’s best expected goals against average away from home this season also at just 0.41 xGA per game.

Shanghai Port Remains Stagnant Offensively

Despite a recent impressive run of nine points banked from a possible 12 over recent games, Shanghai Port has been struggling to get going offensively, averaging just 0.50 goals per game at home this season and rank fifth-from-the-bottom in overall expected goals at home this season as well.

Shanghai Port has only eclipsed one goal just once over their last three games in all, so this is a problem that continues to persist for ‘The Red Eagles’ heading into Wednesday’s clash against Shanghai Shenhua.

Despite all of their head-to-head issues facing Shanghia Port over recent seasons, we like the value in getting the better team here in Shanghai Shenhua +0.25 on the road for Wednesday.

While Shanghai Port has won three of their last four games outright, all three of those wins came against teams currently occupying spots beneath them in the league and two of those wins, Hebei FC and Guangzhou FC in particular rank last and second last in the league this season, so Shanghai Shenhua will represent a huge step up in class in this one for Shanghai Port.

The outright draw has cashed in four of the last seven meetings between the two sides and could well represent the value once again at odds of +210, but for the purposes of this article we’ll play it a little safer and back Shanghai Shenhua +0.25 on the road on Wednesday against Shanghai Port over in the Chinese Super League.
