PSG vs Real Madrid Analysis

Two of Europe’s soccer heavyweight’s clash on Tuesday night over at Parc des Princes in Paris as Spanish league leaders Real Madrid take on French league leaders PSG in a mouth watering clash over in the French capital.

Real Madrid had an almost perfect group campaign, getting shocked by minnows FC Sheriff in round 2, along with a red-hot start to their LaLiga campaign as well. However, they’ve stumbled of late with just one win across their last four competitive matchups.

PSG meanwhile are racing away with the French Ligue 1 title this season with a 13 point lead at the top, but struggled in the group stage of this competition, getting fortunate against Manchester City and drawing against both RB Leipzig and Club Brugges on the road as well.

Real Madrid Solid at the Back under Ancelotti

It’s been a solid season defensively for ‘Los Blancos’ this year as the 13 times European Cup winners allowed just 0.5 goals per game across the group stage campaign including none on the road over that stretch as well.

In domestic action, Real Madrid have been equally as impressive this season, giving up the 2nd fewest goals allowed this year along with the 2nd fewest xGA on the road this season as well at just 0.98 xGA.

PSG’s Dominant Home Form

While PSG may have struggled slightly in the group stage of this competition, at home they were their usual impervious selves, winning three from three and scoring 9 goals across those three wins as well.

In French Ligue 1 action this season it’s been a similar story for the Parisians. The French giants have 34 points from a possible 36, a lone draw against 3rd placed Nice their only blemish on that record, with a massive +22 goals difference to boot.

PSG vs Real Madrid Prediction

On paper, with Benzema potentially not match fit ahead of this clash for Madrid and Neymar likely returning for the home side here, along with PSG’s exceptional home form as well, it looks a tall order for Real Madrid to get a result in this one.

However, PSG rarely play anyone as strong as who they’ll face here on Wednesday night in a top tier Spanish outfit and under Carlo Ancelloti, Real Madrid have been incredibly hard to beat this season.

Madrid have lost just two games all season over in Laliga and kept a competition best four clean sheets across their six group stage games in this competition also.

Madrid’s strength is in their midfield area with Casemiro, Kroos and Modric as ‘Los Blancos’ have the Champions League’s highest pass accuracy this season and should be more than a match for a PSG side that still hasn’t settled on a proper midfield pairing this season.

We expect Real Madrid to play tight in this one, and with their excellent defensive record to work out from the back from, we like them on the handicap here catching a +0.5 goal start with a stronger look towards the under 3 goals in this one as well.
