Aston Villa at Sheffield United Premier League Picks

Both teams came off a losing effort on Tuesday night as Sheffield United fell 3-2 to Crystal Palace while Newcastle handed Aston Villa a 3-1 loss in Birmingham to stem a four-game losing run of their own in the league.

That loss for Aston Villa was their first loss at Villa Park all season, previously winning nine of their last ten home games here with one draw also, so that 3-1 scoreline against Newcastle definitely came as a surprise to many given how dominant the Villains have looked at home this season.

On the road however, Villa just haven’t been as good, sitting with a W4, D3, L4 record on the season as a whole, and winning just one of their last three games away from home also, that coming against a Brentford side who are fighting relegation this year.

Villa will therefore need to do much better on their travels for the rest of the season if they’re going to claim a top-four spot in the league.

For Sheffield United, they put up a titanic battle on Tuesday night against Crystal Palace, taking the lead on two different occasions in that game, only to fall short late in a thrilling 3-2 finish down in the English capital.

The Blades do need to start having some luck go their way however as they sit firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with just two wins all season.

Sheffield United has a strong recent head-to-head record at home against the Villains, winning each of their last three encounters at Bramall Lane. Even more noticeable is the fact that four of the last five meetings between these two teams have witnessed at least one of the teams not scoring as well.

Aston Villa have started to tail off badly, securing just one win in their last five league games overall, and needing a late 97th-minute equalizer to secure a draw in December’s reverse fixture against Sheffield United as well.

Therefore, there are definitely worse bets to take this weekend than following the trends in this one and putting a little something on the Blades to get the outright win to nil against the Villains on Saturday.

Premier League Prediction: Sheffield United to Win to Nil (+775)

Wolves at Chelsea | February 4 | 9:00am ET

Wolves +410 | Chelsea -160 | Draw +315

Wolves at Chelsea Premier League Prediction

With both teams locked in mid-table with just two points separating them overall, this Wolves and Chelsea game on Sunday has all the hallmarks of another hard-fought encounter in London this weekend.

Wolves have a tremendous head-to-head record against Chelsea across recent seasons, losing just one of their last seven meetings against the Blues.

That could continue into this weekend’s clash also as Chelsea were completely dismantled 4-1 in midweek by Liverpool, a scoreline that could have been even worse for Chelsea had Darwin Nunez converted his penalty just before half-time.

That loss for Chelsea stopped what had been a reasonably impressive recent three-game winning run for them in the league, their best run all season, as Mauricio Pochettino now might have one eye locked on next week’s FA Cup game against Aston Villa, as well as a League Cup final against Liverpool at the end of the month also, instead of a league campaign with so little to play for.

Wolves meanwhile were the team to hand Chelsea that previous loss in the league before Liverpool, beating the Blues 2-1 in the West Midlands back in December, with Chelsea being incredibly wasteful in attack in that game.

On the road however, Wolves just haven’t been all that good this season, winning just one of their last six league road games, and losing four of those six games outright as well.

This is a very tricky game to navigate as we wait for Wolves’ result against Manchester United on Thursday, but with Chelsea involved in cup action in midweek against Aston Villa, Wolves’ overall poor road form this season, plus three of the last five meetings at Stamford Bridge between these two teams ending in outright draws as well, we’ll take a flyer with yet another stalemate landing on Sunday between Wolves and Chelsea in London.

Premier League Prediction: Draw (+315)

Manchester City at Brentford | February 5 | 3:00pm ET

Manchester City -235 | Brentford +600 | Draw +390

Manchester City at Brentford Premier League Prediction

In what’s been a pretty unreal recent series between these two teams of late, with Brentford winning both of the last two meetings between these two sides in the league, the Bees will no doubt aim for a surprise win #3 on Monday night down in the English capital.

That last win for Brentford came in May on their home ground on the final day of the season as the Bees squeezed out a late 1-0 win against the Cityzens, a result they’ll hope to emulate once again on Monday as they prepare to face Manchester City not just once in February, but twice.

Manchester City meanwhile are coming off four straight victories in the league as they attempt to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool at the top of the table who currently own a five-point advantage over City with City having a game in hand also.

Manchester City has looked impressive in all of those recent four outings as well, winning three of those four games by multiple-goal margins and averaging 2.75 GPG scored also.

However, Brentford, who have been abysmal on the road this year, have been a bit more dependable at home this season, winning four of their last seven league games at the Community Stadium, including giving both Aston Villa and Arsenal two difficult tests here as well over the last couple of months.

Given Brentford’s dogged home form this season, along with their positive recent success against Manchester City as well, the Bees may well sneak inside the number here on Monday and we’re happy to back them at the current handicap line of +1.25.

Premier League Prediction: Brentford +1.25 (+100)
