Six Nations Rugby Betting Preview

Must-win game for Ireland here this weekend as anything less than that and it will hand France the Six Nations crown over in the late game on Saturday against England, but it likely won’t be easy against a Scotland team that have won seven of their last ten games outright over the last year.

Ireland come off a really impressive result against England last week, beating the English 32-15 over in London while Scotland overcame a determined Italian side 33-22 in Rome.

Scotland’s Issues on Defense

While Scotland have continued to improve over recent years, their defense this season has been really sub-par as only the Italians have allowed more points at the back than Scotland have in 2022. The Scottish have also posted a negative points differential this season also along with only Italy and Wales.

That will be a huge area of concern for them here on Saturday as they face an Irish team with arguably one of the most destructive offenses in all of world rugby right now, posting a red-hot +84 points differential over this tournament so far, which is a full 28 points more than France have managed.

Ireland’s Electric Offense

Even when Ireland haven’t played particularly well this year, their ruck speed and overall pass precision has allowed them to continue to punish opponents with their speed on the ground.

The Irish didn’t look paticularly great against England last weekend, getting sloppy in the scrum and giving up far too many unforced errors and penalties to England, but the English still couldn’t capitalize as their defensive shape was constantly overrun by Ireland and that will be a huge concern for Scotland ahead of this one also.

England vs Ireland Prediction

Ireland are in prime form right now and no team seems equipped to deal with their electric offense.

Even in the one game they lost this year against France, the Irish made more runs, had more conversion goals and made more tries than the French in that one, but gave up far too many penalties, which the French capitalized on, edging out Ireland 30-24 over in Paris.

Ireland have one of the quickest ruck speeds in all of world rugby right now at just 2.89 seconds on average and that’s incredibly difficult for opposing defenses to set up for as the ball is often out and gone before teams have a chance to react.

With Ireland winning 14 of their last 15 at home and the Scottish having not won in Dublin since 1998, it’s hard to look past anything other than a comprehensive Irish victory here on Saturday.

With some -13.5’s still available at time of writing, that’s the way we’re going to look in this one and take Ireland -13.5 to win and cover against Scotland on Saturday over in Dublin.
