Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Analysis

The Edmonton Oilers will look to record their best winning streak of the season so far on Monday in what has been a red-hot run for them at home over the last two weeks.

However, that will be easier said than done as the Oilers face a team in the Colorado Avalanche who have posted a mightily impressive 23-3-3 mark at home this season and rank as the best team in all of hockey.

This will be the teams’ first meeting this season of a three game series.

Edmonton’s Offense Starting to Look Like a Juggernaut

Prior to their season best win streak two weeks ago, the Oilers had posted a really sub-par 2-6 record from the mid-point of February as their offense was stagnating, averaging just 2.5 goals per game over that run.

Since their recent home stand on March 9th however, the Oilers have looked back to their best, averaging a colossal 5.4 goals across their last five starts and look in absolutely scintillating form in front of nets right now, scoring 6+ goals in all of their last three starts.

Colorado Looking to Lock-Up the West

After a tough spell to start March in which the Colorado Avalanche lost four of five games to open up the month, four of those five taking place on the road also, the Avalanche will look to put another run together here at home on Monday in a three game homestand starting with the Edmonton Oilers tonight before Vancouver and Philadelphia come to town later in the week.

Home has practically been a fortress for this Avalanche team for most of the season also, with Colorado putting together a sensational 18 game win streak here between mid-November to the end of January.

Colorado Avalanche vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction

We have to look towards taking the Colorado Avalanche in regulation to overcome the Edmonton Oilers at home.

While the Oilers have looked really impressive over their last few games, they have yet to put that to the test on the road this season, posting a fairly mediocre 16-11-4 record away from home this year.

On top of that, the Oilers have won just two of their last eight games when going in as a road underdog, and with Mike Smith expected in nets tonight for the Oilers as well, a goalie who ranks 54th on the year on total GSAA average this season, we believe Colorado gets the outright win in Denver here tonight.

Take the Colorado Avalanche in regulation (-130) to get the win against the visiting Edmonton Oilers.

Hockey Betting 101 | What is the Puckline?

The puckline is hockey’s version of the point spread. When betting on the puckline, the favorite is -1.5 goals on the spread, with the underdog at +1.5 goals. Betting on the favorite requires your team to win its game by two or more goals. Conversely, betting on the underdog at +1.5 means that your team can either win the game or lose by one goal, and your ticket will still cash.

Since the majority of hockey betting is built around the moneyline, casual bettors might be turned off by laying larger prices with the top teams in the league. Instead of laying -200 or -250 on a strong favorite, a more attractive option might be laying -1.5 goals at a more reasonable price point. Conversely, it can be hard to pull the trigger on a +200 underdog that’s expected to lose their game over 60% of the time. Well, it gets a little easier to put your money on them if you’re getting a +1.5 goal head start.
