Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes Analysis

Carolina took both games against the Bruins in Boston during the regular season and will be eager for a repeat of that tonight as they look to advance into the second round with a win against the Bruins in Game 6.

However, despite regular season form, Boston has shown some tenacity at home over this playoff series so far winning both games inside the TD Garden against the Hurricanes by multiple goal margins.

Jeremy Swayman has been confirmed in nets tonight for the Bruins while Antti Raanta is expected in nets for the Hurricanes also.

Carolina Hopes To Overcome Boston Freeze

While the Hurricanes took both games in the Garden during the regular season, that’s been a drastic change over the last few seasons where Carolina has shown a really sub-par record against the Bruins inside this venue.

The Hurricanes have won just three of their last fourteen meetings inside the TD Garden against Boston and with such a young contingent of players for the Hurricanes here, the Bruins will hope that pressure mixed with home ice advantage continues into tonight’s game as well.

Boston’s Electric Defense

The 3.80 GA/G rating the Bruins have averaged over this series so far really doesn’t do them justice as to how good this Boston defense has been all year.

The Bruins allowed the 4th fewest goals in the league this season but more than that they ranked #1 on expected goals against this year by a sizeable margin.

What let Boston down this season was their opponent high danger conversion percentage inside the slot, with Boston ranking as the 3rd worst team in the league on that metric ahead of only Chicago and New Jersey.

If they can clean that up however, this defense should prove a problem for any opponent moving forwward.

Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes Game 6 Prediction

This Boston defense is criminally underrated right now but with everything on the line here tonight in terms of elimination, I believe we see the best version of them show up here tonight and shut down this Carolina offense on home ice.

Swayman has been solid in nets over recent games averaging a .913 SV% over his last three starts and that extended to the season as a whole where he came out with a +7.32 GSAA average this season, good for top 20 in the league.

The Under has gone 11-4-1 in the Bruins last sixteen games when they come off a lopsided loss by three goals or more in their previous start and we like them to bounceback here defensively tonight and keep this one under the total.

Take the Under 6 goals on Thursday between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Boston Bruins.
