Tennessee Titans vs Houston Texans Predictions

  • Tennessee Titans -10 vs Houston Texans
  • Total: 45 Points
  • The road team has covered the spread in each of the last four meetings in this series.
  • The over is 29-11 in the Titans’ last 40 games.
  • Tennessee is 5-1 against the spread during their current six-game win streak.

Success in the NFL is often tied to bouncing back from adversity and putting the “next man up” mentality to work effectively. So far in 2021, no one has done that better than the Titans.

Despite losing Derrick Henry for the season, Tennessee shares the NFL’s best record through 10 games with Arizona and Green Bay. What’s even more impressive is that they opened the season getting hammered by the Cardinals at home.

Their only other loss came at the Jets in a matchup that should’ve ended up tied If not for a missed field goal late in overtime, but Randy Bullock has redeemed himself by doing his part to produced tight wins over Buffalo, Indianapolis and most recently, New Orleans.

Ryan Tannehill has found a way to keep the chains moving despite losing the game’s top running back and working with a banged-up A.J. Brown who has been a shell of what he’s shown he can be. Earlier this month the star receiver revealed he’s battle depression and contemplated suicide last year.

Top offseason acquisition Julio Jones has been unable to contribute due to a hamstring injury, while the team’s leader and best offensive lineman, tackle Taylor Lewan, has missed games and has yet to be 100 percent due to a knee injury. Tennessee has already used 82 players this season, two off the NFL record.

“I appreciate our core group that fights and battles and finds a way to make plays at the end,” said head coach Mike Vrablel, who is now the favorite to win Coach of the Year at Draft Kings. “When you don’t panic, there’s a tendency for everybody else not to panic. Find out who we have, find 48 guys that will try to help us win on Sunday, whether they’re on the practice squad or whether they’re on the active roster. Put a plan in, who it is, what do they know, what can they do? Then compete to win a football game.”

This is a situation where Tennessee is likely to be foiled by human nature. Consider what the Titans have overcome. Since blowing out the Jaguars 37-19, they’ve defeated the Bills and Chiefs, gone to Indianapolis and survived the Colts in overtime. Then they lost Henry. No problem, they just went out and whipped the Rams in L.A.

Last week, they struggled with the Saints but managed to prevail by persevering against a really solid New Orleans defense, holding on 23-21. This week, Houston being on the schedule basically signals that it’s time to take a breather.

Tennessee doesn’t need its “A-game” to handle business. A trip to New England is on deck before a much-needed bye week. The Titans probably won’t lose here, but they probably won’t cover either. Take the points.

Tennessee Titans vs Houston Texans Analysis from The GoldSheet

The Titans have won five consecutive games against teams that reached the playoffs last season and have won six-straight for the first time since opening the ’08 season 10-0. Harold Landry has been the team’s top defensive player, registering at least a half-sack in eight games in a row. D’Onta Freeman, Adrian Peterson and Jeremy McNichols are splitting up Henry’s workload, but it’s Tannehill that has to take his game up to the next level if the Titans are going to compete for an AFC title.

The Texans own the AFC’s worst record with just one victory in nine outings but should be better since Tyrod Taylor will have a full week of practice time under his belt after returning to action in Week 9 against Miami. He produced a season-high 37 points and Houston’s only win in Week 1 against the Jaguars. The Texans are getting double digits in Nashville, but should be able to cover this spread if Taylor can extend drives with his legs and keeps Brandin Cooks busy with targets. Take the points.
