Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints Preview

The New Orleans Saints take a trip to Tampa Bay for a divisional showdown with the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. The Bucs are coming off a 23-17 overtime loss in sloppy conditions at Cleveland against the Browns.

The Saints were shutout for the first time since way back in 2001 in a 13-0 road loss against the San Francisco 49ers. Tampa Bay prevailed in the first head-to-head meeting 20-10 in New Orleans. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 PM EST/5:15 PST from Raymond James Stadium on ESPN.

Buc Stops Here

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers watched a two game winning streak fall by the wayside as they lost 23-17 in overtime against the Cleveland Browns. Tom Brady completed 29 of 43 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns.

His favorite receiver was Chris Godwin who caught 12 of his 13 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown. Rookie running back Rachaad White ran the ball 14 times for 64 yards while catching 9 balls for 45 yards.

However the Buccaneers offense was unable to generate any points in overtime despite multiple possessions. “It’s been the same all year” Brady said. “We’re not scoring enough points. Every play is an individual win or loss and we’re losing too many” There were too many plays where we were not on the same page, and we’ve got to correct that.”

The Bucs have struggled to score at 27th with only 18.2 points a game. They rank dead last in rushing, 5th in passing and 25th in red zone conversions. Defense is the Bucs calling card, they rank 5th in scoring with only 18.5 points and 9th with 315 yards allowed per game.

Offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs has already been ruled out for this contest while safeties Mike Edwards & Antoine Winfield Jr and defensive tackle Vita Vea are all questionable.

Saints Still Alive

The New Orleans Saints record dropped to 4-8 on the season after being shutout by the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday. Andy Dalton completed 18 of 29 passes for 204 yards with five of those passes going to wide receiver Chris Olave for 62 yards.

The Saints were held to only 62 rushing yards as a team and Alvin Kamara fumbled twice. “We had some opportunities, and you’re not going to beat a good team unless you make plays that are there to be made” said head coach Dennis Allen.

This is a must win for New Orleans if they want to remain in the hunt as they are two games behind Tampa Bay entering this contest. The Saints rank 13th with 20.8 points per game and 15th with 347.3 yards per game.

New Orleans is allowing an average of 23 3 points per game which is 20th in the NFL while ranking 12th with 326.4 yards allowed per game. Tight end Juwan Johnson has been ruled out with an ankle injury, while corberbacks Marshon Lattimore & Bradley Roby are both questionable. Robert is dealing with concussion protocol while Lattimore is nursing an ab injury.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints Prediction

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are favored by 3 points over the New Orleans Saints with a total of 41. This has become an amazing divisional rivalry as both teams have fought for control of the NFC South. Tom Brady has struggled with the Saints, going 0-4 against them prior to his victory earlier this season.

One of the amazing storylines has been Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans going toe-to-toe with Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Lattimore has definitely gotten the better of Evans at points as we’ve seen everything from ejections to games where Evans has been completely neutralized.

However Evans has cleared his receiving total of 60.5 in 5 of his last 9 games against New Orleans. We get this at a discount as Evans has fallen short in three straight weeks despite being targeted 26 times in those games. Now enter a Lattimore abdominal injury into the equation.

This has become personal between Evans & Lattimore so Evans won’t hesitate to embarass Lattimore if possible.

Brady knows he needs to get on the same page as Evans if they have hopes for a deep post-season run and this game could be the launching pad. I’m comfortable backing Mike Evans over 60.5 receiving yards tonight in Tampa.

Prediction: Mike Evans Over 60.5 Receiving Yards -110 Draftkings
