LA Rams vs Jacksonville Jaguars Predictions

  • LA Rams -13 vs Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Total: 48 Points
  • The under is 9-1 in Jacksonville’s last ten games.

Strange game here as we have two teams coming off of three straight losses, and Jacksonville is the only team to cover a spread in their three losses. There are several statements I can make that you can just substitute the team name for.

1. The ____ got run all over by San Francisco.
2. The ____ have a starting quarterback who is under performing.
3. The ____ have not had a running back rush for over 90 yards in six straight games.

Both teams are obviously struggling, but with much different situations and expectations. We’ll start with the Rams who have lost to the Titans, 49ers and Packers in three straight weeks and for a team who has Super Bowl aspirations, that raises a lot of red flags.

Just using the eye test, Stafford does not appear to be healthy. He’s missing passes, looks uncomfortable, and maybe he’s hurt and hiding it or maybe this is just who he is at this point in his career, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s regressed over the season. They also are not running the ball with much success. They don’t have a running back with a 90+ yard rushing game all season. This is the part of the year where the loss of Cam Akers is flaring up as Henderson isn’t physical enough to scare defenses, and Sony Michel is…well, Sony Michel. Their defense is also getting lit up giving up 28 points or more in three straight.

There are only a couple teams in the NFL that the Rams would be -13.5 favorites against, and the Jags are one of them. After their stunning 9-6 win against Buffalo, they fell back to earth losing three straight capped off by a seven point loss to Atlanta. Trevor Lawrence is having a predictably underwhelming rookie season as he has more interceptions than TD’s, but besides James Robinson there just aren’t a lot of weapons on offense as their leading receiver is Marvin Jones with only 529 yards total on the year. Their rush defense was surprisingly good through October, but they are getting worn down and have given up three big rushing games to Indy, San Francisco and Atlanta.

We have a struggling Rams team and a struggling Jags team and most would expect the Rams to win, but there is no way I’m laying 13 points on a team who struggles to run the ball, has a quarterback regressing, and a defense on the down turn. The Rams are on an 0-5 run ATS, and even if they win this game I don’t think it’s convincingly.

This could also be a “Sandwich” game as the Rams schedule gets serious after this game with Arizona, Seattle, Minnesota, Baltimore and San Francisco coming right after this. This game might be close, or we may need a 4th quarter back door cover, but the Rams aren’t a team I can support to win by two touchdowns. Maybe wait til closer to kickoff to see if this line gets to 14, but I’ll still play it at 13.

LA Rams vs Jacksonville Jaguars Analysis from The GoldSheet

Recent high-profile adds of Von Miller and OBJ yet to pay dividends as LA is now entwined in only its second three-game skid of the Sean McVay era. And now we know why LA’s apparent first target after last season was Aaron Rodgers, not Matthew Stafford, with the latter tossing his third pick-six in as many games (and as many losses) last week in another Rams loss at Green Bay.

Granted, LA isn’t dealing with the Packers this week, as the Jags continue to face a bit of a conundrum with Trevor Lawrence, realizing he is best-suited to a form of the RPO he executed for Dabo Swinney but deeming that an unnecessary risk because of the potential excessive wear-and-tear. Without the playmaker cupboard especially bare after injuries (including Lawrence’s Clemson teammate RB Travis Etienne prior to the season), Urban Meyer has been working on short rations offensively. But J’ville has recently beaten Buffalo and actually covered three of its last four on the road thanks to an improving defense that has also keyed a 9-1 “under” run stretching back to mid-September, suggesting they can likely avoid embarrassment in Inglewood. Play Jacksonville.
