Houston Texans Depth Chart 2023

The Houston Texans are coming off a disappointing 3-13-1 season in 2022. They lost 12 of their first 14 games of the season before finally winning their final game of the year. The Texans are hoping to turn things around in 2023 with a new head coach in DeMeco Ryans and a number of new additions to the roster.

Quarterback

The Texans used the #2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to take former Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud who has already been impressing the staff enough to be considered the starter heading into the 2023 season.

Running Back

Dameon Pierce had a solid rookie campaign for the Texans rushing for 939 yards and four touchdowns as the team signed former Bills RB Devin Singletary to be the change-of-pace back for the Texans in 2023.

Wide Receiver

Robert Woods had one of his most disappointing seasons as a player last season only netting 527 receiving yards for the Titans while playing in every game. The Texans signed him to pair with Nico Collins and John Metchie III who missed all of last season with an injury after being drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Tight End

After catching 57 balls for 577 yards and five touchdowns last season, Dalton Schultz made his way across the state from Dallas to signing with Houston in the offseason. Quitoriano had 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his rookie campaign with the Texans.

Offensive Line

The Texans revamped their offensive line in the offseason notably drafting center Juice Scruggs with their second round pick out of Penn State. Laremy Tunsil and Shaq Mason are the veteran leaders for the OL.

Defensive Line

If you couldn’t tell already the Texans were busy during the 2023 NFL Draft as they used the #3 overall pick on Alabama DE standout Will Anderson Jr. who compiled 204 tackles and 34.5 sacks in his three years at the school.

Linebacker

Christian Kirksey is entering his 10th NFL season (second with HOU) with Denzel Perryman entering his first season with Houston while playing eight seasons already with the Chargers and Raiders. These two will lead a LB corps that’s otherwise inexperienced.

Defensive Backs

Shaquill Griffin is entering his first season with the Texans after spending six seasons with the Seahawks and Jaguars. Stingley Jr. and Pitre are each entering their second season with the team combining for six interceptions last season.

Special Teams

The Texans have a solid special teams unit. Ka’imi Fairbairn is a reliable kicker who has been with the team since 2019. Cameron Johnston is a good punter who averaged 48.1 yards per punt in 2022.
