Chicago Bears Depth Chart Overall 2023

The Chicago Bears are a professional American football team based in Chicago, Illinois. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The Bears are led by head coach Matt Eberflus, who is entering his second season with the team.

The Bears finished the 2022 season with a 3-14 record, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year. They ranked 28th in total offense and 29th in total defense. They had some bright spots, such as 2nd-year quarterback Justin Fields, who showed flashes of potential throwing for over 2,200 yards and rushing for 1,143 yards along with eight rushing touchdowns.

The Bears made their impact in the 2023 NFL Draft by bolstering up their offensive and defensive lines. They also made moves drafting skill position players in RB Roschon Johnson out of Texas and WR Tyler Scott from Cincinnati.

Here is a look at the Bears’ depth chart for the 2023 season.

Chicago Bears QB Depth Chart

The Bears’ starting quarterback is Justin Fields, who they drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Fields is a talented quarterback who has shown flashes of potential, but he has also been inconsistent. He’s only completed 59.7% of his passes during his career to go along with a 79.7 QB rating.

The backup quarterback is P.J. Walker, who is a former XFL standout who played in six games for the Carolina Panthers last season accumulating 731 passing yards to go along with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

The third-string quarterback is Nathan Peterman who played in three games for the Bears last season throwing for 139 yards and a touchdown during that minimal time.

The Bears’ quarterback depth chart is as follows:

•  Justin Fields

•  P.J. Walker

•  Nathan Peterman

Chicago Bears RB Depth Chart

The Bears could very well go with a 50/50 approach at running back at least to start the NFL season. They signed former Panthers running back D’Onta Foreman after losing David Montgomery to the Lions during the offseason. This will be Khalil Herbert’s third season with the Bears as he rushed for 731 at 5.7 YPC during the 2022 season.

The third-string running back is Roschon Johnson who will be playing his first NFL season out of Texas where he rushed for 554 yards on 6.0 YPC and five touchdowns as a senior for the Longhorns last year. Travis Homer will be a change of pace back who accumulated 231 total yards as a member of the Seahawks last season.

The Bears’ running back depth chart is as follows:

•  D’Onta Foreman

•  Khalil Herbert

•  Roschon Johnson

•  Travis Homer

Chicago Bears WR Depth Chart

DJ Moore figures to be the #1 pass catching option in Chicago after acquiring him in a trade with the Panthers that netted Carolina the #1 overall pick. He spent five years in Carolina gaining over 1,100 receiving yards in three of those five seasons. Last year was his best as far as touchdowns with seven total on the season.

Mooney has the most experience as part of the Bears franchise of any WR on the roster entering his fourth season. He only had 493 yards receiving and two touchdowns just a season after accumulating 1,055 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He did miss five games though last season due to injury

Chase Claypool will be the wildcard of this Bears WR core as he was acquired mid season in 2022 from the Pittsburgh Steelers. In seven games played on the Bears last season, he only managed 140 yards and still searching for his first touchdown as a member of the Chicago franchise. St. Brown, Scott and Pettis will all serve as backups with Pettis being the only one who has any experience with the Bears.
