Baltimore Ravens vs Cleveland Browns Predictions

  • Baltimore Ravens -3.5 vs Cleveland Browns
  • Total: 46 Points
  • Baltimore has won nine of the last 11 meetings between these teams, going 8-3 against the spread.
  • Four of Baltimore’s six road games have gone over the total, while four of Cleveland’s five road games have gone over the total.

A game with lots of storylines, injuries and playoff implications for this Sunday Night contest, and we’ll start with some overall season trends with these two teams, but I’ll really be focused on the recent happenings of these teams. Baltimore is 4-6 against the spread this season while Cleveland is 5-6, and Baltimore is 5-5 Over/Under while Cleveland is 6-5. Nothing real definitive in this numbers, so let’s get to the things that have recently happened.

The quarterbacks are not in great spots as Lamar Jackson missed last weeks game with an illness, and now we’ve got some questions about his health. He’s had COVID twice and he’s had multiple chest colds that have caused real problems for his availability. The Ravens said on Tuesday that he was feeling better, but I have doubts about him being 100% this week.

On the other side we have Baker Mayfield who is clearly banged up, and frustrated with…well, everything. Since Cleveland’s big win against Cincinnati (where Baker got even more hurt I believe) the team has scored seven points at New England and 13 points at home against Detroit. Baker has passed for 73 and 176 yards in those two games with two TD’s and three INT’s. The Ravens had the tough OT game against Minnesota followed by the clunker on a short week in the loss to Miami and the crazy 16-13 win against Chicago.

The Browns have a better running game with Chubb and their offensive line compared to what the Ravens offer right now unless Lamar Jackson is 100%, but the Ravens have more talent in the passing game with Brown, Andrews and Bateman. If everyone is healthy, and this is Week 1, this game is handicapped completely different, but it’s Week 11 in a crazy NFL season, so what’s the best angle to wager on this game?

I am going to take the position that neither of these quarterbacks will be 100%. Even if Lamar Jackson is over his illness, with how sick he was according to reports I think there will be a little bit of steam taken out of him. Baker is nowhere near healthy and he’s playing like it. If the quarterbacks aren’t playing well I’ll take the under 46. The Ravens defense isn’t great, but they’re better than Detroit’s who held Cleveland to 13 points, and when we saw the Ravens play that Thursday Night game on short rest after overtime they scored 10 points against Miami.

I will expect Cleveland to pressure Jackson up the middle like Miami did, and I’ll expect Baltimore to focus on stuffing the run and making Baker beat them which I don’t think he is physically capable of doing right now. This game comes down to the lack of health on these quarterbacks, and I don’t see efficiency and touchdowns coming out of this game. I’ll take the under 46.

OFFICIAL PLAY: UNDER 46
Player Prop: Baker Mayfield WILL THROW AN INT

Baltimore Ravens vs Cleveland Browns Analysis from The GoldSheet

Cleveland underwhelmed in edging downtrodden Detroit last week, having to hang on to edge Detroit 13-10. The upside was the return of Brown RB Nick Chubb, back from a one-game Covid quarantine, who ran for 130 yards on 11 carries (5.9 ypc). Less effective was a declining QB Baker Mayfield, who has completed just 26 of 50 passes for 249 yards with 2 TDs and 3 ints. in the last 2 games. The Browns struggled despite the fact the Lions were playing without QB Jared Goff, and backup Tim Boyle gifted Cleveland 2 interceptions, while throwing for no touchdowns himself and tallying only 77 yards passing on the day.

Baltimore rallied in the final minute, driving 72 yards in 1:19 to for a game-winning TD and beat Chicago last week, with journeyman backup Tyler Huntley, who was subbing for all-pro Lamar Jackson, a late scratch due to a non-Covid illness. Huntley was adequate (26 of 36 for 219 YP, 1 int., and 40 yards rushing), although he was under duress (sacked six times). The Ravens should have Jackson back for this game. Raven DE Calais Campbell was forced out with a foot injury (33 tackles this season; check status), but lifeless effort against Detroit not a good sign for the Browns.
