Toronto Raptors vs Memphis Grizzlies Predictions

  • Toronto Raptors -5.5 vs Memphis Grizzlies
  • Total: 219.5 Points
  • The over has cashed in each of Memphis’ last seven games, while the over is 7-2 in Toronto’s last nine games.
  • Toronto is 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games.

The Raptors and Grizzlies event is the second of a Toronto seven-game homestand. The team returned home on Saturday morning from a six-game road trek in which they struggled to a 2-4 record. The first game back in Scotiabank on Sunday found the Raptors hosting the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, Toronto lost to the Celtics by a disappointing 109-97 final. It was their ninth defeat in the club’s last 12 games.

The Raptors are playing through several critical injuries, and it has handicapped the squad offensively. Toronto was held to less than 100 points in back-to-back losses to Indiana and Boston. The Canadian outfit scored just 104 in their road loss to the Warriors, followed by their last positive result, a 126-113 victory in Memphis at FedEx Forum right off the world-famous Beal Street. Toronto has scored 104 or fewer points in their previous four losses dating back to their 119-103 defeat at the dribbling, shooting, and passing of the Utah Jazz.

The Raptors and the Grizzlies converge at Scotiabank Tuesday night, with the Toronto crew having covered in just three of their last 12 games.

Memphis have just two straight-up wins in their last seven games as a visitor. Furthermore, the Griz are a money-eating 2-5 against the spread in their previous seven road games. On Sunday night, the Grizzlies scored a straight-up and ATS 128-101 win against the visiting Sacramento Kings in Memphis.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies are 3-5 in road games this season. All-Star Ja Morant injured his knee in Friday’s 132-100 loss to the Hawks. The Griz owns a -5.3 Net Rating on the season. Offensively they score 110.9 points per 100 possessions and hold opponents to 116.2 per 100. Without Ja Morant, Memphis has a -4.7 Net Rating.

Toronto Raptors

The Raptors are a sleepy 2-7 in home games. The Raptors’ last win came from a 126-113 victory in Memphis as 3.5-point underdogs last week. On Tuesday, the Raptors will take the hardwood without leading scorer OG Anunoby, who remains hobbled by a hip injury. Center Khem Birch (knee) and veteran guard Goran Dragic (personal) have been ruled out for the matchup against Memphis, while guard Gary Trent (calf) is questionable.

All-time, Toronto is 27-24 in the Memphis series and has been more successful as the home team going 15-11 in games in which the Raptors are listed as the home team.

Peter Thomas contributing for USA Today Sports got as much injury update Intel from Raptors head coach Nick Nurse on Saturday before the team’s Sunday game against the Boston Celtics. Thomas wrote that Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse has officially retired from injury fortune-telling.

“So what’s the latest on Gary Trent Jr. who left Friday night’s game with a right calf contusion,” added Thomas.

“I haven’t been very good at my prognostications of day-to-day and guys not taking very long to get back and things like that, so I have no indication that he is in or out,” Nurse told a group of national reporters following Saturday’s practice. “He is somewhere in the middle of that for tomorrow.”

Thomas covered the Sunday game night injury updates thoroughly in his game preview, noting that “Trent did sit out practice and was feeling sore and wasn’t likely to dress for the Boston matchup. Likewise, OG Anunoby took part in some of Saturday’s practices and mentioned that Nurse wasn’t convinced he would be active for the contest. To close, the USA Today contributor inked that Nurse told the media hounds all of the injured are questionable.

Toronto Raptors vs Memphis Grizzlies Injury Report

Toronto Raptors
G Gary Trent Jr. (calf) is questionable.
C Khem Birch (knee) has been ruled out.
F OG Anunoby (hip) is out.
G Goran Dragic (personal) is out.

Memphis Grizzlies
Zaire Williams (knee) is questionable.
G Ja Morant (knee) has been ruled out.
G Sam Merrill (ankle) has been ruled out.

The Raptors played without OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr., and Khem Birch and lost 109-97 at home to Boston on Sunday. The Celtics claimed the road win without a significant contribution from All-Star Jayson Tatum, who was 2-for-16 from the field.

The teams meet for the second time this season. The Raptors won 126-113 in the last meeting on November 25. Gary Trent Jr. led the Raptors with 26 points, and Morant led the Grizzlies with 23 points.

The Grizzlies are 1-0 without Morant; however, the win against a traveling Sacramento Kings team on Sunday resulted in a 128-101 Memphis victory that isn’t an adequate gauge on who this Griz team will be moving forward without their floor general.

The status of Anunoby has already been declared. Arguably the Raptors’ most important player will not be available. Gary Trent will have a significant factor in the game handicap that will find an adjustment once the Raptors coaching staff declares Trent in or out for Tuesday night’s matchup against the Griz.

We know much of what will and won’t take shape on Tuesday night because we already have a good idea who will and won’t be available. However, there are still more questions than answers making the responsible investment into this Raptors and Grizzlies game is time. We watch, then wait for the right situation that offers advantages worth a game night investment.

Toronto Raptors vs Memphis Grizzlies Analysis from The GoldSheet

Maybe we should have seen it coming two nights ago, as the Memphis bipolar tendencies were not about to go away due to Ja Morant’s knee injury. Thus, the pattern continued in the first no-Morant game, burying Sacramento by 27 two nights ago, with recently-activated Dillon Brooks (21 points) and Desmond Bane (18 points) picking up some of the offensive slack while the Griz decided for once to play some defense, too, holding the Kings to only 32% shooting thru the first three quarters. That scoreline, however, merely underlined the erratic Memphis pattern, one that has seen their last nine losses all by double-digit margins (some of those being hefty double-digit margins).

Whether Toronto is ready to lay down the hammer is another matter, especially still likely to be minus F OJ Anunoby (hip) . Gary Trent, Jr. And Goran Dragic also missed the Sunday loss to the Celtics, but at least the schedule might be turning in the Raps’ favor, with tonight the second of a seven-game homestand following a challenging road swing. True, Scotiabank Arena has hardly been a fortress (Toronto just 2-7 SU at home), but the Raps also just beat the Griz by 13 at FedEx Forum last Wednesday, and that was with Morant (23 points) still active. Toronto shot plenty of holes in a soft Memphis defense when hitting 53% from the floor, with all starters scoring 17 or more.
