Philadelphia 76ers vs Los Angeles Lakers Analysis
The Los Angeles Lakers travel to Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for an inter-conference matchup with the 76ers. Anthony Davis returned for the Lakers in a 106-96 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. The win moved the Lakers record back to .500 at 24-24.
Meanwhile the 76ers improved to 28-19 after outlasting the the New Orleans Pelicans 117-107. This is first of two head-to-head matchups between these teams who will meet again on March 23rd.
Anthony Davis Has Returned
The Los Angeles Lakers finally have their big three back together with the return of Anthony Davis. AD’s stats don’t jump off the page, but his presence in the paint was a huge mental boost for his team. The big fella had eight points and two rebounds in 25 minutes of action.
Lebron James led the way with 33 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Malik Monk scored 23 points while hitting six three-pointers. Los Angeles is now basically healthy, other than Davis being day-to-day as he nurses himself back to health. The Lakers are 8th in points scored with 111 a game and 26th in points allowed with 112.3 per game.
Embiid Can’t Be Contained
Joel Embiid continued his torrid scoring run with 42 point performance including 12 in the 4th quarter in a 117-107 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. Embiid has now scored 30 points or more in 17 of his last 19 games and 40+ in three of his last four games. Tobias Harris added 33 points in the victory.
Seth Curry and Shake Milton have both been ruled out for tonight’s contest, while Danny Green is now questionable. The 76ers have overcome these injuries while winning 12 of their last 15 games overall. Philadelphia ranks 8th in points allowed with 105.7 a game but only 21st in points scored with 107.7 per game.
Philadelphia 76ers vs Los Angeles Lakers Prediction
The Philadelphia 76ers are 2.5 point favorites with the total set at 217.5. The 76ers rank 27th in the league in pace of play and should be looking to slow down the Lakers tonight. Joel Embiid will be looking to establish position down low while the clock ticks away.
With Seth Curry and Danny Green potentially being out the 6ers could struggle with efficiency beyond the arc. The Lakers rank 3rd in pace of play, but that could be misleading as they have played a few months without AD. With Davis back the Lakers should adopt more of a ball-centric approach.
The 76ers allow the least points of turnovers in the NBA, which should limit easy scoring opportunities for Los Angeles. We will make the under our official play in this contest.
