New York Knicks vs Portland Trailblazers Analysis
After a few days off for both teams, the Trail Blazers make their way to Madison Square Garden for a Wednesday night showdown vs the New York Knicks.
This is the second and final matchup between these two teams this season. In their first matchup in mid-February, the Blazers won and covered the spread on their home floor.
The spread for this second matchup of two teams trending in opposite direction is the Knicks -11.5 and the total is set at 223.5.
Knicks Need Wins
The New York Knicks have played some of their best basketball of the season over their last 10 games, but over this stretch, they are only 3-7.
The Knicks lost two tough games against great teams in Memphis and Brooklyn and played inspired basketball, but they cannot secure wins.
Julius Randle and RJ Barrett are both playing at a high level, but for a team fighting for a playoff spot, the Knicks need to add wins.
As a home favorite this season, the Knicks are only 10-12 against the spread. What’s more concerning for Knicks backers this season is that the Knicks are 0-4 against the spread as home favorites of 9.5 points or more.
Blazers Playing Brutally
The Trail Blazers’ season has become a free fall in the Western Conference standings since the McCollum trade and Lillard’s injury.
Portland is only 9-23 on the road this season and has lost their last five straight road games. The Blazers are also 3-7 in their last 10 games.
This season, as road underdogs, the Trail Blazers are 8-15 against the spread. When it comes to being dogs of 9.5 points or more on the road, the Blazers are 4-5 covering the number.
New York Knicks vs Portland Trailblazers Prediction
This is a must-win game for the Knicks, but that is also not saying much since they are 11.5 point favorites and playing against a surly inferior opponent.
The Knicks have been playing much better lately, but they are also playing up to their competition. If the Knicks play to Portland’s level and do not come out inspired in this game, the Knicks may lose outright and will also lose all hope at a playoff spot.
With that being said, I am not confident in either team covering the spread tonight. What I do like is for this game to go over the total of 223.5.
I expect the Knicks to be sluggish tonight and I expect the young Blazers’ players to relish the opportunity to play at the Garden. All things considered, that should lead to a fast-paced game with a lot of offense.
