Lakers vs Pelicans Analysis

With Anthony Davis going down with an injury, Lebron James is tasked with turning around a Lakers team that has lost 13 of their last 19 games.

Meanwhile, CJ Mccollum has thrived personally as a Pelican but the team has only won two of five games since he joined the team.

This will be the first of three head-to-head matchups between these two conference rivals. This game will be featured as the nightcap on ESPN’s Sunday Night Doubleheader.

Lakers vs Pelicans Team Totals

This game is a virtual pick’em with a total of 222.5 points, so both teams have a total set at 111.5 points. These teams play at a completely different pace, as the Lakers rank fifth while the Pels rank 22nd. The Lakers average just over 110 points a game, while the Pelicans average just above 105 points per game.

On the season the Lakers have struggled defensively, allowing 112.3 points a game which ranks 24th in the NBA. The Lakers defense has stepped up recently, but that could change with the Pels coming to town.

In the five games since Mccollum has joined the team, the Pels have scored 114 or more four times with 109 points in the one game they fell short. The Lakers like to move the pace and this young Pelicans team will run with them.

Recommendation: New Orleans Pelicans Over 111.5 Points

Lakers vs Pelicans Player Props

There are many different directions you could look with so many big names involved in this contest. Lebron James has carried the Lakers, but his point total is set accordingly at 29.5 points. CJ McCollum has been on fire since joining the Pelicans, as he has averaged 29 points per game since coming to New Orleans. Mccollum could be worth a look at 23.5 points.

But we will go with a bad blood revenge angle here. Brandon Ingram has scored an average of 25 points in six games against the Lakers since being ousted from the team. Ingram’s point total seems low to me at only 21.5 points.

He had been consistently hitting the over prior to the All-Star break. However prior to his last game he struggled for three games, whether it be a poor shooting performance or his minutes being limited due to a blowout. He did break through in his last game with 28 points against a stout Suns defense. This game should be close and I believe in players bringing a little something extra against former teams. It may be motivate Ingram to take those extra key shots to push him over 21.5 points.

Recommendation: Brandon Ingram Over 21.5 Points

Lakers vs Pelicans Same-Game Parlay

  • Brandon Ingram OVER 24.5 Points + Assists
  • Lebron James OVER 19.5 Points
  • CJ Mccollum OVER 1.5 Three-pointers made
    +100 Odds at DraftKings

We will utilize Ingram for this parlay but take his points + assists at over 24.5. Ingram may get that with points alone and his assist numbers have been up recently.

Our second leg will be Lebron James with 20 points or more. He basically gets that in his sleep.

Since joining the Pelicans, McCollum has hit 2+ three-pointers in all but one game. The Lakers don’t play efficient perimeter defense, so that shouldn’t be a problem for Mccollum. Wrap up all three for even money at +100 odds.
