Indiana Pacers vs Los Angeles Lakers Analysis

Spoiler: This will not be a finals matchup preview. The Pacers have one win since Christmas, and the Lakers are 6-9 in their last 15 games. The Pacers will be without Myles Turner for the short term, and Brogdon is a game time decision yet again so they’ll be short handed against the Lakers who are coming off a surprising win against Utah. The Lakers are -5 favorites and the total sits at 225, but for our purposes we’ll be seeing how to find the best bet in this game.

Indiana Imploding

It’s been a disastrous run for the Pacers as injuries, and bad play have resulted in them losing 10 out of 11 games, and this contest tonight will be the second of a five game road trip and the first game did not go well as they lost 139-133 to the Clippers as their defense was nowhere to be found. That’s been a theme for them recently as they’ve allowed over 112 points to five out of the last six opponents. Even though they’re losing, they are covering about half their games going 4-5-1 against the spread the last 10 games. The last three games guards have been dominating them as Jaylen Brown, Devin Booker and both guards for the Clippers had big offensive nights.

LeBron Leading Lakers

It’s tough to imagine where the Lakers would be without LeBron. He’s been their leading scorer in 14 straight games, he’s 2nd in the league in scoring, 17th in assists and 4th in PER. Incredible numbers for a guy in his 18th year. I can’t find a trend of any significance against the spread or over/under, but I do think their last game against Utah is an outlier. Utah had a terrible night shooting 3’s, and collapsed in the fourth quarter, but the three previous games the Lakers gave up 125 or more to Denver, Sacramento, and Memphis. Something to keep an eye on tonight is Russell Westbrook’s scoring. He’s been in a terrible shooting funk, and his points total has gone under in six straight games. The Pacers have been getting torched by guards so this game gives him a nice chance to break out of his slump.

Indiana Pacers vs Los Angeles Lakers Prediction

I don’t trust either of these teams with a point spread, but I do believe these teams will be able to score on each other tonight. Both backcourts are subpar on defense and the Pacers definitely don’t have a defender to slow down Lebron. Both teams have given up a lot of points to opponents recently, so I’ll take a shot with the over in this game.

Indiana Pacers vs Los Angeles Lakers Preview from GoldSheet

Lakers showed signs of turning a corner in their 4th quarter rally to beat Utah on MLK Day Monday night, finally ratcheting up their poor defense and holding the Jazz (tops in the league in scoring and FG%) to 95 pts. in the game (only 17 pts. in the 4th quarter). Indiana lost to the Clippers here in Crypto.com Arena earlier on Monday, and that was the Pacers’ 10th straight up loss in their last 11 games, mostly linked to the absence of PG Malcolm Brogdon, as well as the more recent foot injury suffered by C Myles Turner. With Malik Monk hitting 49% of his treys over the last 9 games, and some new energy infusing the team with the increased usage of Arizona product Stanley Johnson, who at 25 years old is playing hard to carve out a lasting niche in the league, there are helpers around to help a top-of-form LeBron James maneuver the Lakers forward.
