Hornets vs Bulls Analysis

The Chicago Bulls take a short one-game road trip to Charlotte as the Hornets finish up a five game home stand. Both teams are fun from a props perspective as they are loaded with talented players. However, both teams will also be without their fair share of players.

The Bulls continue to play without Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso, while Ayo Dosunmu is now officially out with a concussion. Gordon Hayward is now out indefinitely due to sprained ligaments in his ankle, while Cody Martin and James McDaniels will also miss this one.

Hornets vs Bulls Team Totals

A high scoring affair is projected here with a total set at 231.5. The Bulls prevailed in a 133-119 shootout in their lone meeting back in late November. Both teams can put up tons of points on any given night as they rank 2nd and 8th in scoring respectively. The Hornets are the second-worst defensive team in the league, while the Bulls have played horrendous defense without Ball and Caruso.

The obvious move here would be an over but both team totals are through the roof at 117.5 and 118.5 respectively. While the Bulls defense has been in poor form, the Hornets haven’t scored more than 107 points in five games. In the other four of those five games Charlotte was held to 101 twice, 90 and 86. Now they are short another scorer without Gordon Hayward.

Team Total Play: Charlotte Hornets UNDER 117.5

Hornets vs Bulls Player Props

Even though we went under on Charlotte’s team total, I’m still expecting some huge games from individual players in this game. In the first head-to-head matchup Lavine, Derozan, Vucevic and Rozier all scored 25+ points. The Hornets are notorious for giving up points and rebounds to opposing centers this season.

Nikola Vucevic already has an amazing 30 point, 14 rebound effort against them this season. I do think Vucevic has a big game but he has a huge 38.5 PRA total and you never know who will take over with scoring between him, Lavine and Derozan.

The Bulls were already short-handed on ball distribution, but now Ayo Dosunmu is also out and he was putting up solid assist numbers. The offense now flows through Derozan more often than not and he has 7 assists or more in 6 of his last 7 games. His assists prop is 6.5 with the over being +100, we will back the over here. Derozan put up 6 assists last time he played Charlotte and that’s with Ball posting 8 and Caruso dishing out 7 assists of their own.

Player Prop Play: Demar Derozan OVER 6.5 assists +100

Hornets vs Bulls Same-Game Parlay

We already mentioned some of the spots I like here, such as Derozan assists and Vucevic points and rebounds. We kept it simple and hit on yesterday’s same game parlay and while I would love to try and cash a huge plus odds ticket, we will do the same here.

First, Derozan 5+ assists for the reasons listed above. We will also add Vucevic 30+ points + rebounds, as the Hornets are horrible against opposing centers. Terry Rozier has hit 2+ three-pointers in his last 7 games as well as 16 of his last 18 games. He went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc in his first meeting with the Bulls. We will roll with those 3 plays for +130 odds.

Hornets vs Bulls Same-Game Parlay Play: Derozan 5+ assists + Vucevic 30+ points and rebounds + Rozier 2+ made three-pointers at +130 odds.

Hornets vs Bulls Preview from GoldSheet

What was once the NBA’s third ranked offense near the end of January has slipped all of the way to tenth, as Charlotte is now scoring roughly a subpar 96 points per 100 possessions in the current losing streak. Now key cog Gordon Hayward (16 ppg) is out indefinitely with an ankle sprain, and the radar has stopped working for the Hornets on three-pointers, bottoming out at a woeful 9-for-40 (22%) in Monday’s ugly loss to the Raptors.

Chicago’s offense has not been having Charlotte’s potency issues lately, hitting 120 or more points in six of the last seven games (no surprise “over” in each of those), including a 12-0 run across the last 1:41 of Sunday’s game vs. the Suns to miraculously squeeze within the 6.5 spread.

Zach LaVine returned form a recent short absence to score 32 vs. Phoenix, but the Bulls had been piling on the points lately even with a reduced roster (Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Derrick Jones Jr. and Patrick Williams all long-term absences, and briefly minus LaVine).
