Golden State Warriors vs Orlando Magic Predictions

  • Golden State Warriors -16 vs Orlando Magic
  • Total: 217.5 Points
  • The under is 16-6-1 in Golden State’s games this season.

The Chase Center will host a Monday night matchup between 5-19 Orlando Magic and 19-4 Golden State Warriors. The Magic own the second worst record in the league and are coming off a 118-116 road loss to the Houston Rockets, making them 3-11 on the road. Meanwhile the Warriors have won 12 of their first 14 home games and are tied with the Phoenix Suns for the best overall record. On Saturday night Golden State trailed the San Antonio Spurs early by a large margin, but fought back ultimately falling just short by a score of 112-107. This will be the first of two meetings between these clubs this season.

The Orlando Magic have been in dismal form recently, winning just twice in their last 10 games. They have played slightly better in their last two games with a win against the Denver Nuggets, but then lost a close game to the Houston Rockets. It’s no surprise that their minimal success correlates to sophomore Cole Anthony’s return from injury. Anthony is quite literally the “straw that stirs the drink”, with an average of 20.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists a game.

The Magic also took a major hit recently as they lost a great defender in guard Jalen Suggs who is out indefinitely with a thumb injury. It’s no surprise that Orlando ranks poorly on both offense and defense. They only score 100.6 points a game, good for 3rd least in the association and they have the 4th worst defensive rating. It’s going to take a season best effort for the Orlando Magic to even stand a chance against the Warriors on the road.

The Golden State Warriors have started the season like gangbusters, so it’s almost shocking when they drop 2 of 3 games. In their last game, it took a horrendous 7-28 shooting performance by superstar Steph Curry to lose a close game to the San Antonio Spurs. Curry is 3rd in the league in scoring with an average of 27.5 points a game, while also contributing 5.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists a game.

The Warriors have plethora of outstanding role players between Draymond Green, Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins amongst others. They will also get a potential huge addition as there is recent news of the return of sharpshooter Klay Thompson. Thompson is close to return, however it will take him time to work back into form after missing the past 29 months with multiple ACL injuries. The Warriors rank incredibly high on both sides of the ball. They have the #1 rated defense and are 3rd in scoring with 113.1 points per game.

This game is obviously a huge mismatch as the Warriors are favored by 15 points with a total of 216. As far as against the spread records, the Warriors are 16-6-1 and 10-3-1 at home. The Magic are 11-13 and 8-6 on the road. Golden State has a 6-16-1 over/under ATS record.

The Magic have scored less than 100 points in half of their 24 games this season. I’m expecting a tremendous effort from the Warriors after losing their last game at home, especially on the defensive end. Based on the spread and total the Orlando team total should be set at 100.5 and we will make the Magic team total under our official play. I’m fully expecting Orlando to score under 100 points as this game gets out of hand.

Official Play: Orlando Magic Team Total Under 100.5

Golden State Warriors vs Orlando Magic from The GoldSheet

Not an ideal spot tonight for the Magic, catching the Warriors off of a rare defeat. Which, 24 hours after a rousing romp that ended the Suns’ 18-game win streak, was a definite risk when hosting an ascending Spurs side. But after kicking that game away to Coach Pop in the last minute, Steve Kerr’s guys should be back to business as they have been after their three defeats previous to Saturday, all wins and covers and each by 18 points or more. Orlando certainly vulnerable to the knockout blow, with several heavy losses amidst a whole lot of losses (11 in the last 13 games), though the Magic did break a 7-game tailspin last Wednesday vs. the Nuggets and actually brings three covers in a row into Chase Center.

No matter, roster depth still an issue for first-year HC Jamahl Mosley, who at times must feel like he’s coaching a team full of Saquon Barkleys with an expansive injury list now counting among it Gonzaga rookie G Jalen Suggs, down with a broken thumb suffered last week after picking up the pace considerably before his recent injury. At least top scorer Cole Anthony is back in the fold after recently missing five games.
