Golden State Warriors vs Detroit Pistons Analysis

The Golden State Warriors will play host to the Detroit Pistons Tuesday night at the Chase Center. On Sunday, the Pistons took a brutal 135-108 home loss against the Phoenix Suns. Meanwhile, the Warriors played without Steph Curry and Draymond Green and suffered a 119-99 road loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday afternoon. These teams will meet for the second time this season. The Warriors won the first tilt 105-102 in Detroit on November 19th.

Warriors in a Funk

The Golden State Warriors have now lost 5 of their last 7 games after getting beat by 20 points by the Minnesota Timberwolves. This was also the 5th time in 7 games that the Warriors failed to reach 100 points. They were without the services of both Steph Curry and Draymond Green in the loss, illustrating how important they are to the team. Steph Curry is questionable with a hand injury, as is Gary Payton II with a back injury. Draymond Green is out indefinitely with a calf injury. Jordan Poole led the team with 20 points in the loss. The Warriors boast the league’s #1 defense allowing only 102 points a game. They score 109.9 points a game which ranks them 12th in the league.

Pistons Dismantled by Suns

The Detroit Pistons had been playing solid basketball recently, winning 5 of their last 9 games. They will be looking to bounce back after getting absolutely demolished 135-108 by the Phoenix Suns. Cade Cunningham and Cory Joseph each scored 21 points, while Trey Lyles chipped in with 18 points. Jerami Grant is still out indefinitely with a thumb injury, as is Kelly Olynyk with knee injury. Rodney McGruder and Frank Jackson are both questionable to play Tuesday night with conditioning and Covid protocols. At 10-32 the Pistons have the league’s 2nd worst record, while managing to drop 18 of their first 21 road games. The Pistons only score 101.4 points a game, ranking 29th in scoring offense. Things aren’t much better on defense, as they rank 24th with 111.3 points allowed to their rivals.

Golden State Warriors vs Detroit Pistons Prediction

The Golden State Warriors are huge 15 point favorites with the total set at 219. We have the best home team up against the league’s worst road team, but these are straight up records. The Pistons have literally been the league’s worst offensive team season. In the last 3 games they have been even worse, with an average of only 99.3 points per game. Meanwhile the Warriors are the #1 rated defense in the NBA. These teams combined for 207 points in their first meeting. But considering they also combined for 51 free throw attempts and shot over 80% from the line, the total got pushed way higher than it should have been. We are going with the under in this contest.

Golden State Warriors vs Detroit Pistons Preview from GoldSheet

Golden State reported Steph Curry was expected to return to action for this one after missing one game with a hand injury suffered against Chicago, but PF Draymond Green will be out another week or two with his calf issue and G Klay Thompson has yet to fully find his range, shooting just 35.7% from the field. The Warriors are in the worst skid of the season, as they are only 2-5 straight up and 2-6 spread runs heading into this one with Detroit. Given Curry will be back, and HC Steve Kerr’s team will possibly be further reinforced by the availability of backup PG Gary Payton II, the spread will be pumped, but know that Golden State has been a 70% spread play at the Chase Center this season.

The first meeting this season was back on Nov. 19, and surprisingly the Warriors were laying only two pts. at Detroit, and just squeaked in with a cover in a 105-102 Warrior victory. Curry and Thompson sat out that meeting, with Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins combining for 59 pts. against the Pistons, who came almost all the way back from a 16-point deficit in the 4th quarter. Detroit just 1-4 last five getting double digits but see them possibly hanging in against a team that is adept at pacing itself pacing itself. Detroit HC Dwane Casey receiving solid contributions up and down the roster…they just haven’t been translated into that many straight up wins.
