Brooklyn Nets vs San Antonio Spurs Analysis

The Spurs will host the Nets as they will be playing their 6th home game in a row, and that means Kyrie will be in the lineup tonight and the books have decided that’s enough to make Brooklyn a -1 point favorite. The Nets are coming off a one point win at Washington on Wednesday as they play their third straight road game this week, and we’ll be looking to see if there’s a way to profit off this game.

Life Without Durant

Brooklyn is 2-2 without Durant, and honestly if they could remain .500 for his entire absence I think they would be happy with that. Throw all the season against the spread and over/under records out the window for this team when doing handicapping, so we’ll be looking at short term results.

The first game of this road trip they lost to the incredible Cleveland Cavaliers by seven when Irving and Harden were solid, but not amazing and the supporting cast didn’t quite give them enough, and they won by one point against Washington in a game Harden struggled, but Kyrie and Aldridge were really good. Harden still hasn’t quite looked 100% comfortable playing with Kyrie and he was 0-5 from three pointers on Wednesday, but that’s an outlier game. He should have a nice game tonight against a Spurs team who struggle against guards.

Silent Spurs

Do we ever hear anything from San Antonio? I know they play in the NBA, I see their scores, but I never see them on TV or hear anything from them. Anyways, they’ve won two out of three…against the Clippers and Thunder…but they’re only 3-6 since Jan. 5 when Dejounte Murray made his return. There’s nothing exciting from an against the spread or over/under perspective with this team, but look for Murray to have a good game tonight as Brooklyn struggles to contain guards.

Brooklyn Nets vs San Antonio Spurs Prediction

I think the books have nailed this line as I can’t find value on the spread or total. Both teams struggle to contain guards which sets up well for a Kyrie, Harden, Murray showcase. Claxton is a game time decision and if he doesn’t go, that takes away a nice piece for Brooklyn. I don’t have a strong opinion either way, but I would take a sprinkle on the Net’s OVER team total 116.5. Harden had a bad shooting night last game and they still got to 119, and with San Antonio being below average on the perimeter I can see Brooklyn putting up 120 tonight.

PREDICTION: Nets Over 116.5 Team Total (Small Play)

Brooklyn Nets vs San Antonio Spurs Preview from GoldSheet

Brooklyn adjusting to life without Kevin Durant by winning and covering two of first three sans KD, with part-time PG Kyrie Irving contributing 28.5 ppg, 5 rpg and 8 apg while shooting 54% in his pair of performances post-Durant. With nine of the next 12 games on the road, Brooklyn isn’t in terrible shape despite the fact Durant isn’t expected back for 4-6 weeks.

The Nets are 16-5 straight up on the road this season and have won four straight against San Antonio the last few years, covering three of those. These two met 11 days ago in Brooklyn, when the Spurs gave the Nets a game, rallying in the 2nd half to force overtime and very nearly sprang the upset at the Barclays Center. San Antonio has lost 10 of its last 13 straight up and is only 4-8 vs. the number in the last 12, and both of these clubs are 6-3 “under” in their last nine.
