Atlanta Hawks vs Indiana Pacers Analysis

The lifeless Indiana Pacers travel to Atlanta for an Eastern Conference showdown with the Hawks on Tuesday night. The Hawks’ record fell to 25-28 after losing 103-94 to the Mavericks in Dallas on Sunday night. Meanwhile the Pacers dropped yet another game 98-85 in Cleveland against the Cavaliers. The Hawks won a nail-bitter in the first head-to-head matchup between these teams 114-111 in Indiana on December 1st.

Pacers Making Deadline Moves

The Indiana Pacers suffered their third straight loss and 7th in the last 9 games on the road in Cleveland. They now occupy the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference and sit seven games away from a playoff spot. Chris Duarte led the Pacers in scoring last time out with 22 points.

The Pacers also made a deal with Cavs, as they dealt Caris LeVert and a 2nd round pick for the expiring contract of Ricky Rubio with a first round pick and two 2nd round picks. It probably won’t be the only move they make as anyone with talent on the team has been mentioned in trade rumors.

Malcolm Brogdon and Isaiah Jackson are both questionable for Tuesday nights contest. For the year, Indiana is 15th in scoring offense with 108.7 points a game and 21st in scoring defense with 110.9 points allowed to their opponents.

Hawks Look To Gain Ground In Playoff Picture

The Atlanta Hawks fell short of a victory in their last two games and three of their last four overall. John Collins led the team with a 22 point, 18 rebound double double in their latest loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The Hawks currently sit at 10th in the Eastern Conference and would compete in play-in round if the season ended today.

Atlanta enters this game 9th in scoring offense with 111.5 points a game, while Trae Young leads the team in scoring and assists with averages of 27.7 and 9.3 respectively. They rank 23rd in scoring defense as they allow 111.4 points per game to their rivals. John Collins is probable for this contest with a heel injury, while Danilo Gallinari is questionable with a hamstring injury.

Atlanta Hawks vs Indiana Pacers Prediction

The Atlanta Hawks are currently 10 point favorites with a total set at 226.5. The Indiana Pacers have essentially waved the white flag by trading away their No. 2 scorer. The over is 6-1-1 against the spread in the Pacers’ last eight games and 15-5-1 in the Hawks’ last 21 against a team with a losing record. Both teams have played in some high scoring games recently. Four of the past five Pacer games and three of the last five Hawks games have went well over this total. I can’t trust either team from a side perspective, but both play horrible defense. We will count on a shootout here and take the over.

Atlanta Hawks vs Indiana Pacers Preview from GoldSheet

These two have alternated straight-up and pointspread wins and losses since Covid became an issue, but one constant has been a string of “over” results that’s at five-straight and eight of the last ten in the series.

Atlanta very streaky team this season, and right now Nate McMillan’s men might be on a downturn, losing 3 of last 4 SU and against the points, ranking 23rd in net differential in that run. Indiana a bit healthier, with Sabonis returning from a 3-game absence, but the trade of Caris LeVert to Cleveland for Ricky Rubio (OFS with an ACL) is a red flag that the team is kick-starting a major rebuild.

Two of the Hawks’ recent setbacks came on the road (one without Trae Young) and they return to State Farm Arena where Young, John Collins and Clint Capela have put together a 7-1 straight-up and spread winning run at home after earlier losing ten-straight as host.
