Dana White’s Contender Series Week 7 Predictions

Rafael Tobias -445 vs Jair de Oliveira +310

There isn’t a ton of film available on either fighter, but Jair de Oliveira looks out of his depth at this level. Despite picking up wins, his competition has been extremely poor, and his style is  sloppy — wild swings, poor footwork, and questionable cardio even in fights that ended in the first round.

Rafael Tobias is only 22 years old, yet already has 14 fights under his belt, giving him valuable experience for his age.

He’s shown solid striking, a capable ground game, and carries physical advantages in size and strength. This looks like a mismatch, and Tobias should get it done inside the distance.

Javier Reyes -210 vs Justice Torres +160

Justice Torres has picked up recent knockouts, but both came after his opponents faded, and  overall his game looks limited.

He often relies on fighters tiring out before finding success, with most of his wins coming by decision or against opponents who had little left.

Javier Reyes isn’t  overly impressive either — he tends to start slow, his takedowns and striking are average, but he  does carry solid cardio that keeps him in fights.

Given the flaws on both sides, this line is far too wide to justify Reyes as a -210 favorite. The best angle is on the total, as both men are durable and lack finishing upside. This fight going the distance is the play.

Sofia Montenegro -215 v Jeisa Chaves +165

Jeisa Chaves comes into this fight with one of the weakest résumés you’ll see, as none of her  opponents have ever won a fight — a combined 0-8 record.

Her striking is slow and unpolished, and she hasn’t been tested against any meaningful competition. Sofia Montenegro profiles as a faster, sharper version of Chaves, with cleaner striking and enough movement to avoid most of what Chaves throws.

This fight isn’t likely to produce fireworks, but Montenegro should control the stand-up exchanges and outpoint her opponent. Montenegro by decision is the pick.

Brahyan Zurcher -156 vs Murtazali Magomedov +120

Murtazali Magomedov isn’t the typical grinding wrestler you might expect from the name —  he’s a striker with real power, but his defense is wide open.

He’s willing to eat two shots to land one, often putting himself in bad positions, though he’s resourceful enough to capitalize on  mistakes.

Brahyan Zurcher, meanwhile, hasn’t fought in some time and has gone through multiple opponent changes for this matchup.

He’s solid on the ground with serviceable striking  and PFL experience, but he hasn’t faced anyone of real quality.

Both fighters have defensive flaws and finishing upside, making this a fight unlikely to see the scorecards. Given the chaos factor, it’s Magomedov or nothing.

Dana White’s Contender Series Event: Djani Barbir vs Mantas Kondratavicius

This fight isn’t likely to last long, as both men carry big power and have finishing ability early. Mantas Kondratavicius is always dangerous on the feet, but his defensive gaps leave openings to be exploited.

Dani Barbir not only brings knockout power of his own, but he’s also shown the ability to mix in takedowns and punish opponents with ground-and-pound.

That added  dimension gives him more paths to victory in what should be a quick, violent fight. The lean is Barbir, and this one shouldn’t get out of the second round.
