It’s MLB’s Rivalry Weekend and Friday’s Reds vs Guardians contest will get the spotlight in the Buckeye State. Early forecasts were calling for some rain in Cincinnati on Friday evening, but updated reports suggest this game should be able to start with no major issues. The high humidity and warm temps should help the ball carry at one of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball.

Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland enters Rivalry Week with a 25-18 record. That would be good enough to be leading three other divisions in baseball, but unfortunately for the Guardians, they are 3.5 games behind the red-hot Tigers in the AL Central.
Tanner Bibee ranks in the bottom-20th percentile among pitchers in chase rate, whiff rate and strikeout rate. Pitchers that do not generate strikeouts and pitch to weak contact typically do not fare well in Cincinnati because of Great American Ballpark’s small dimensions. He pitched in Cincinnati last season and gave up two home runs in 5.1 innings while taking the loss.
Cincinnati Reds
Brady Singer allowed seven runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings against Houston in his last start. Much like Bibee, Singer is struggling to generate strikeouts. He only has a total of seven strikeouts in his last three starts (14.2 innings), which can be a recipe for disaster at Great American Ballpark.
Cleveland has plenty of experience against Singer because of his time in the AL Central with the Kansas City Royals. The Guardians’ current roster is hitting .418 in 143 plate appearances against Cincinnati’s Brady Singer with a 13.3-percent strikeout rate and a .469 weighted on-base average.
- Will Brennan is 7-for-15 with a double and a walk.
- Jose Ramirez is 12-for-27 with two doubles and three home runs.
- Steven Kwan is 9-for-23 with a double and two walks.
