New York Yankees vs Seattle Mariners Analysis

The Seattle Mariners prepare for the second of three games against the New York Yankees from the Bronx on Tuesday evening. The Yankees prevailed last night with 7-2 wire-to-wire victory.

The Bronx Bombers hit four home runs including two by catcher Jose Trevino. Seattle will turn to the powerful righty Logan Gilbert, while New York sends the 30 year-old Jameson Taillon to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST.

Another Win Another Judge Home Run

The New York Yankees continued their dominant run with a 7-2 beat down of the Seattle Mariners last night. Aaron Judge hit his league leading 43rd home run, Anthony Rizzo hit a home run for his third straight game and Jose Trevino hit two home runs.

Domingo German kept a lid on the Mariners with five innings of two run baseball. The bullpen did the rest as they held the Mariners scoreless for the final four innings.

The Bronx Bombers feature the games highest scoring offensive attack with 5.36 runs a game. However they will once again be without the services of their cleanup hitter Giancarlo Stanton as he remains out with an achilles injury.

The Yanks still have the league’s best record at 70-34 with an 11.5 game lead over the second place Toronto Blue Jays. Jameson Taillon will take the mound in hopes of continuing his stellar season. He has a 10-2 record with a 3.72 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.

Taillon has been on another level at home, with a 6-1 record and 3.16 ERA. He was absolutely brilliant in his last outing as he tossed six innings and only allowed one run to the Kansas City Royals.

Mariners Lost Mojo

The Seattle Mariners didn’t start the season on the right foot, but went on to rip off 14 straight wins leading into the All-Star break. However they are now 5-7 coming out of the break and sit 1.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final Wild Card spot.

Starting pitcher Marco Gonzales was hammered in yesterday’s 7-2 loss as he gave up six runs on nine hits across 5.1 innings. Kyle Lewis hit a solo-blast and Adam Frazier drove in the other run with an RBI single.

The Mariners are dealing with wrist injuries to key players as Ty France is questionable and Julio Rodriguez is on the IL for this series. Even with those hitters in the lineup, the Mariners have struggled to score as they rank 23rd in runs scored and 25th in batting average.

Logan Gilbert gets the nod for Seattle, he’s been lights out this season with a 10-4 record and 2.78 ERA. Amazingly he has been even better on the road with a 6-1 record and 2.47 ERA.

Gilbert has had back-to-back replica starts against the Houston Astros where he gave up two runs on five hits in six innings in both games.

New York Yankees vs Seattle Mariners Prediction

The New York Yankees are favored with a -165 money line, while the Seattle Mariners sit at +140 with a total of 8.5. It will be interesting to see what these two rosters will look like when the trade deadline is set and done.

The Yankees have already added starter Frankie Montas and closer Lou Trivino from the Oakland Athletics last night. Both starting pitchers have had eerily similar numbers and seasons.

Both have been sharp, Gilbert better on the road and Taillon better at home. The offenses are on completely different levels as New York averages 5.14 runs per game, while Seattle averages only 2.86 runs a game.

The Mariners offensive attack has been further limited without their top two hitters in Ty France and Julio Rodriguez. I’m not sure the Mariners can keep up in this one, let’s take advantage of some nice plus money on the Yankees run line.

Prediction: New York Yankees -1.5 +125
