New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Analysis

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees meet for the second of four games from Yankee Stadium on Friday evening.

The Yankees prevailed in extra frames last night with a 5-4 10th inning victory. New York now leads the head-to-head season series 10-6 over Boston.

The anticipation for Aaron Judge’s historic 61st & 62nd homeruns mounts as he hit one that fell short to the center field warning track in his last plate appearance.

Baseballs elder statesman Rich Hill gets the nod for the Red Sox while the Yanks start their ace Gerrit Cole. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM EST/4:05 PST.

Judge & Yankees Organization Embrace The Chase

The New York Yankees prevailed 5-4 last night in the bottom of the 10th on a Josh Donaldson single. Aaron Judge hit a deep shot to center field in his last at bat in the 9th inning but it was caught on the warning track.

It was the moment that everyone was waiting for, to tie Maris with a walk-off blast would be epic. The Bronx Bombers officially clinched a playoff spot last night, which was essentially a formality at this point.

At 91-58 New York has a 7.5 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays with only 13 games left to play. The Yankees will send out their ace Gerrit Cole to face the Boston Red Sox for the 5th time this season.

He has allowed 12 runs across 23 innings of work. However he has better at Yankee Stadium where he’s held Boston to five runs across 11 innings of work.

The End Is Finally In Sight

This has been a painful season for Red Sox Nation and that continued last night with a 5-4 loss in the 10th inning. Michael Wacha gave the Sox a chance with six innings of three run baseball.

He wasn’t quite as sharp as usual as he allowed six hits and four walks. Catcher Reese McGuire hit a three run blast, his 2nd of the season. Boston fell to 72-77 on the season, good for dead last in the American League East… Fun times!

They still have highmarks offensively as they rank 4th in batting average, 6th in on-base percentage and 9th in slugging percentage. The 42 year-old veteran Rich Hill will toe the rubber for Boston on Friday night.

The ageless wonder “Dick Mountain” is 7-7 on the season with a 4.70 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Amazingly he hasn’t faced the Yankees yet this season despite pitching 107.1 innings.

New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox Prediction

The New York Yankees are heavily favored with a money line set at -205 while the Boston Red Sox sit at +175 with a total of 7.5. What immediately jumps out to me is the low total at Yankee Stadium against the Red Sox.

The only potential factor I see slowing down run production is the potential for winds to be blowing in from outfield. However the Red Sox have beat up on Gerrit Cole this season and he has struggled recently.

The Yankees lineup is clicking with an average of 7.6 runs a game in their last 10 games, so they should do their fair share of damage against Hill. Regardless Hill has only pitched more than five innings four times this season and only once since July 1st.

He is backed by a horrendous bullpen that ranks bottom five in ERA on the season and over the last 30 days. The total has gone over 7.5 in 11 of their 16 head-to-head meetings this season for an average of 10.2 runs per game.

In the seven games at Yankee Stadium, they have cleared this number five times for an average of 10.5 runs a game. The Red Sox have averaged five runs a game across the season and they have multiple hitters who crush Cole.

This total is way to low for this matchup, give me the over!! I’m also going to recommend a play on an Aaron Judge homerun at +215 odds FD. Rich Hill doesn’t have the stuff to throw it past him and neither does anyone coming from the bullpen. It feels like the only way to keep him in the yard is with walks.

Predictions:
Over 7.5 -115 DK
Aaron Judge to hit a HR +215
