Daily K Prop Prediction: Dane Dunning Over 4.5 K’s (-110)
Record and ERA aside, Dunning currently ranks in the top 25 among pitchers in K/9, striking out 8.9 batters per 9 innings on average and he’s going just under 5.2 IP per start on average this year, with an average of just under 1 strikeout per inning, that already puts him over his number.
Dunning has struck out 5+ batters in 5 consecutive starts this year, on top of accomplishing this in 6 of his last 7 starts. Two of those starts have already came against the Angels this season and he has struck out 13 batters in those two starts (7 K’s & 6 K’s).
In the last two seasons combined, Dunning has faced the Angels 5 times and struck out 29% of the batters he has faced! He is averaging 5.2 K’s in those 5 starts, equating to 26 K’s in the 91 batters he has faced.
The Angels are 3rd in the league when it comes to strikeouts, getting sat down on strikes 395 times this season, or 9.2 strikeouts per game! They have struck out 10+ times in 5 of the last 7 games as a team and individually, their roster accounts for 10% of the top 30 of batters who have struck out the most this season.
Brandon Marsh has struck out 44 times already this year, leading the team, and seeing as he has only played in 37 games that means he is striking out nearly 1.2 times per game.
Jared Walsh is striking out 1+ times per game as well, getting fanned 43 times in 40 games. Shohei Ohtani is the 3rd player on the team to crack the top 30, getting sat down on strikes 43 times this season, but against Dunning specifically, Ohtani has struck out in 33% of his at-bats, walking away with a K in 4 of his 12 at-bats!
