Blue Jays vs Yankees Analysis

The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays kick off a three game series on Monday night from the Rogers Centre in a battle between the top two teams in the American League East. Both teams have seen their respective odds to win the A.L. East shorten over the first month of the season.

The Yankees improved to 16-6 after beating the Royals 6-4 yesterday in Kansas City. The Blue Jays edged out the Houston Astros 3-2 at home, upping their record to 15-8.

The veteran righty Ross Stripling gets the nod for Toronto, while the southpaw Jordan Montgomery toes the rubber for New York. First pitch is slated for 7:07 PM EST.

Blue Jays Yet to Lose a Series

The Toronto Blue Jays currently occupy 2nd place in the American League East, only 1.5 games behind the New York Yankees and 2.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays. They split a four game series with New York when they squared of last month.

That was as close as they have come to losing a series, making them 6-0-1 on the season. In yesterday’s victory over Kansas City, their ace Kevin Gausman brilliant once again.

His record improved to 2-1 after hurling seven innings while striking out ten and allowing only two earned runs on six hits and no walks. Jordan Romano tossed the 9th inning to earn his major league leading 11th save of the season. Bo Bichette slugged a two run blast in the 6th inning to give him three on the season.

The Toronto offense leads the MLB with 30 homeruns, Vladimir Guerrero Jr and George Springer have each contributed 6 long balls.

The Jays turn to starting pitcher Ross Stripling to get the series started on the right foot. Stripling has been serviceable with a 3.60 ERA but has yet to make it past the fifth inning in three starts.

Yanks Aim For 10th Straight Win

The New York Yankees nine game winning streak makes them hands down the hottest team in the MLB. Their 16-6 record is also the best in majors.

That record is due in large part to their dominant pitching thus far. They are 2nd in team ERA at 2.70 and 7th in WHIP at 1.15 while holding opposing hitters to a .216 batting average, good for 8th place. The Bronx Bombers are also holding their own at the plate, ranking 4th in runs, 6th in batting average and 2nd in slugging percentage.

In their latest victory over the Royals, Luis Severino pitched 5 innings while allowing 3 earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Flame thrower Aroldis Chapman picked his 6th save of the season after closing the game in the 9th.

Aaron Judge belted two home runs to give him eight on the season. That puts the towering slugger 2nd place in the league in home runs, only one behind his teammate Anthony Rizzo.

It’s Jordan Montgomerys turn in the rotation on Monday night. In four starts Montgomery is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Prediction

The money line is close to a pick’em with the New York Yankees at -120 and the Toronto Blue Jays at +100 and a total of 8.5.

This is quite the early season showdown between two teams that have established themselves as potential World Series contenders. The Yankees offense has caught fire as they average 7.44 runs per game during their 9-game win streak.

However, the real advantage is in the pitching. Jordan Montgomery has avoided being hit hard with a 2.70 ERA, 2.99 xERA and paltry 2.4% barrel rate. Stripling has been solid, but it hasn’t been against a quality offense.

The three teams he faced are ranked 20th or worse in OPS, while the Yanks are 3rd. New York also has a tremendous bullpen advantage as they rank 2nd in ERA compared to Toronto at 17th. I’m not stepping in front of 10 game winning streak on a short money line.

Prediction: New York Yankees Moneyline (-109)
