Seton Hall vs Butler Analysis
Butler is 13-15 on the season, averaging 62.7 points per game while giving up 67.2 points per game. Ten of Butler’s last 12 games have gone over the total.
Seton Hall is 16-9 on the season, averaging 73 points per game while giving up 67.5 points per game. Seton Hall is 11-3 at home, but 6-8 against the spread in those home games. The under is 15-9 in games involving Seton Hall this season.

Mock brackets still seem to have plenty of respect for the Hall, appearing anywhere from the 7 to the 9-line in most projections. Pre-league wins over Michigan and Texas, and enough quality Big East scalps (UConn, Creighton, and Xavier) have enhanced the Pirates’ profile. But that doesn’t mean we have to lay points with Kevin Willard’s bunch, as this is also the worst 2-point shooting team (just 47.2%) in the Big East not named Georgetown.
Seton Hall has had nothing but close games the past couple of weeks, including a narrow escape vs. second-division DePaul on Saturday in Newark after trailing the Blue Demons into the last minute.
These many struggles in recent weeks might also have something to do with being minus former Harvard transfer G Bryce Aiken, who was heating up in January (24 ppg across a three-game stretch) before being KO’d by a concussion, with resultant symptoms keeping him out for more than a month. But even if Aiken returns for the first time since Jan. 15, this might not be easy, as the Bulldogs have had a look at every game across the past month save last Friday when KO’d early at St. John’s.
Feisty Bulldogs
Butler bounced right back after that blowout loss to St John’s with a near-upset of Providence on Sunday, when Gs Chuck Harris and Aaron Thompson combined for 33 points. True frosh G Jayden Taylor (team-high 19 in the loss to the Red Storm) has also showed signs of emerging lately for LaVall Jordan, whose side has covered seven of its last ten and is much improved from the early January version that lost to the Pirates by 15 at Hinkle Fieldhouse, which was also before the Bulldogs’ second-leading scorer G Bo Hodges (14 ppg last four) was activated in mid-January.
