Oral Roberts vs North Dakota State Betting Analysis
Could a team on the nation’s longest winning streak that went undefeated in conference play actually get left out of the NCAA Tournament? Oral Roberts hopes they don’t have to learn the answer to that question.
The Golden Eagles have won 16 in a row overall and all 20 of their Summit League games thus far, but bracketologists still have them as a bubble team if they’re unable to lock up an automatic bid tonight against North Dakota State.
Oral Roberts Eyes Another NCAA Tournament Run
How did Oral Roberts end up in this position? If you ask head coach Paul Mills, it’s because no one wanted to play them.
After reaching the Sweet 16 in 2021 with one of the best scoring guards in the country in Max Abmas, Mills couldn’t find willing opponents in the non-conference schedule and was forced to play four non-Division I teams.
Oral Roberts was able to schedule five competitive games against good competition (four of the five on the road), but unfortunately for Mills and Co, they lost all four of those road games.
Bison On Track to Upset Oral Roberts?
North Dakota State presents the final roadblock, and the Bison have gotten hot at the right time. Entering this season, head coach Dave Richman had a lot of production to replace and the Bison sat at No. 346 in the country in KenPom’s experience metric.
NDSU started the season 3-11 but closed the year with a flurry, winning seven of its last eight games. That lone loss? An eight-point defeat at Oral Roberts on Feb 18.
In these smaller conferences, we always look for a player that can take over a game by himself. Abmas can unquestionably do that for Oral Roberts, but the Bison have one of their own in Grant Nelson.
The 6-11 junior has scored 20+ in each of his last six games, including a 20-point, 22-rebound performance against South Dakota State in the semifinal.
Oral Roberts vs North Dakota State Expert Prediction
Nelson will be the key to keeping the pressure on Oral Roberts’ 7-5 (yes, you read that right) center Connor Vanover, who just logged 32 minutes against St Thomas last night.
Vanover hasn’t played that many minutes in a game in six weeks, and now has to face one of the most versatile inside-out players in the country with no rest. Vanover was held to five points in 29 minutes against the Bison in that Feb 18 meeting.
Oral Roberts is as good as advertised, but this is a lot of points to be giving a North Dakota State team that’s hitting its stride. Oral Roberts’ last eight wins have come by an average of 6.9 points per game. All of the pressure is on the Golden Eagles, while the Bison can play spoiler.
Fargo is only a 3.5-hour drive from Sioux Falls, and if you’re an FCS college football fan, you know that Bison fans don’t mind traveling a little bit. Take the points with North Dakota State.
