Kent State Betting Analysis

If you’re a fan of MAC football, you know that Kent State hasn’t exactly been known for defensive prowess over the past few seasons. The same cannot be said on the basketball court where Rob Senderoff has built a defensive juggernaut.

The Golden Flashes led the MAC in defensive efficiency, effective field goal defense, turnover rate, three-point defense, block rate and steal rate. Kent State held Houston to 49 points and Gonzaga to 73 points (both on the road), which is quite the accomplishment.

The NCAA seeding committee raised a couple eyebrows with their choices on Selection Sunday, and they certainly didn’t do the Hoosiers any favors with this matchup.

Kent State has four senior contributors, led by 6-1 point guard Sincere Carry. The former Duquesne transfer has scored 20+ points in four of his last five games, including 26 in a fantastic performance in the MAC title game win over Toledo.

Indiana Betting Analysis

Indiana went 4-4 to close the season with seven of those eight games coming against fellow NCAA Tournament teams.

Injuries, notably to Xavier Johnson, have forced Mike Woodson to really tighten his rotation, but the Hoosiers appear to be a little too reliant on Trayce Jackson-Davis right now. The 6-9 forward has scored 24+ in each of Indiana’s last four games, but he’s not getting much help.

In the Hoosiers’ Big Ten Tournament loss to Penn State, Jackson-Davis scored 24 while the other four starters combined for 29 points.

In their home loss to Iowa, Jackson-Davis had 26 points and the other four starters combined for 23. If those trends continue, the Hoosiers aren’t going to give Kent State much to think about on defense.

Indiana vs Kent State Expert Prediction

At 140.5, this total is a few ticks too high in our opinion. Indiana is No. 355 in the country in three-point volume, so you don’t have to worry about the Hoosiers going bombs-away from deep.

Neither team puts emphasis on crashing the offensive boards as both would prefer to get back and set up on defense.

Indiana shoots below the national average from the free throw line, so points certainly aren’t guaranteed at the foul line. One team might hit 70 on the scoreboard, but we’d be surprised if both do. Play the under.
