Jaron Ennis vs Roiman Villa Betting Analysis

Highly touted welterweight contender Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis takes on tough Colombian puncher Roiman Villa live on Showtime this weekend over in the gambling mecca of Atlantic City.

Ennis had been on an unbelievable 20-fight streak with none of his bouts going the full distance in fights as his subtle mixture of both ferocious ranged power and pinpoint accuracy, which had devastated opponents up to that point, had many people tipping him to take over as the next king of the welterweight division.

However, his last fight against tough Ukrainian Karen Chukhadzhian did go the full distance, Ennis’ first-ever 12-round fight, leading to a few cheers and boos from the crowd as Ennis was perhaps guilty of overly forcing the action in that one which was on the undercard of the Gervonta Davis vs. Hector Luis Garcia main event back in January.

Ennis will no doubt be looking to get back to his phenomenal KO streak this Saturday night against experienced Colombian campaigner Roiman Villa over in Atlantic City.

Ennis Needs To Shut Out The Crowd

While Ennis does possess incredible tools at his disposal from a technical standpoint, and honestly looks near unbeatable when the Philadelphian fighter is at his very best, there were no doubt some concerning signs in his last fight against Chukhadzhian.

In terms of the fight itself, Ennis completely dominated the action, however, Chukhadzhian simply refused to go away and presented a defensive puzzle combined with some really sharp footwork that Ennis hadn’t seen before from any of his previous opponents.

That led to some frustration on Ennis’ part as the boos started to roll in from the crowd and he tried to overly-force the action as a result, leading to even more mistakes as Chukhadzian was able to effectively see out the rest of the fight fairly comfortably.

The post-fight interview was even more revealing with Ennis laughing nervously as the crowd rained in its cheers, and boos, and while Ennis is no doubt incredibly talented from a skill perspective, that mental fragility might be a concern as he reaches the top of the 147lb mountain in the very near future.

Villa Showing His Gritiness In Fights

In what was meant to be just another showcase outing for then-undefeated Rashadi Ellis earlier this year, the -700 favorite ran into an absolute brick wall in Roiman Villa over in Washington.

In what was a real back-and-forth war overall, Villa dropped Ellis twice in the 12th round to squeeze out a close majority decision win in what was a landmark victory in the Colombian fighter’s career so far.

Villa definitely isn’t the fastest or most elusive in fights, but he does bring substantial power (24 stoppages in 26 wins), coupled with a relentlessly tough aggressive style in fights, never having been stopped over the course of his career so far, and soaking up the best of what Rashadi Ellis had to offer with ease.

That said, on the power scale, Boots is a far bigger puncher than Ellis is so Villa will need to try and find a way to become a little more elusive defensively in this one if he wants to make it the full 12 rounds.

Jaron Ennis vs Roiman Villa Expert Prediction

While Roiman Villa is no doubt an incredibly tough fighter, Jaron Ennis has already shown against the likes of Custio Clayton, Sergey Lipinets, and so on that toughness alone won’t get you far in a fight against him as he’s just so incredibly accurate and devastating in setting up his power shots.

The other major issue for Villa in this one is his footspeed, plodding after Ellis in his last fight with Ellis effectively failing to capitalize on that lack of speed by being walked down himself.

That won’t be Ennis however, who cracks significantly harder than Ellis does, and both his foot movement and ring generalship should be far too much for Villa in this one, effectively allowing him to consistently walk Villa onto big shots which are bound to take a severe toll on the Colombian fighter as the bout wears on.

We’re taking Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis to get the stoppage between rounds 5-8 on Saturday at +170 as he takes on Roiman Villa live over on Showtime in Atlantic City.

Play: Jaron Ennis Rounds 5-8 (+170)
