Carolina Hurricanes vs Buffalo Sabres Betting Analysis
The Carolina Hurricanes secured yet another shootout victory as short road underdogs on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning as they rallied from a 3-2 deficit late in the third to push the game into OT.
The Buffalo Sabres meanwhile are also coming in off three straight wins heading into this one after scoring five goals in the third period against Pittsburgh on Wednesday night as the Penguins slumped to a second straight late-game collapse in games.
The Sabres and Hurricanes faced off against each other three times last season with Carolina winning both of their games at home but losing to the Sabres on the road over in Buffalo.
Buffalo’s Offense Continues To Click
With a mammoth 14 goals scored over just their last two starts, the Buffalo Sabres are absolutely rolling right now offensively, ranking #1 in the league this season on overall shot connection percentage and #2 on total goals per game as well.
However, Buffalo’s mid-table ranking in overall shot count, offensive xG, and high-danger creation rate this season means the Sabres’ +8 on actual to expected goal differential this year, second-highest in the league, likely means their luck won’t last much longer and we can expect some regression from this team in the near future.
Carolina’s Colossal Shot Count
Despite playing out an incredibly close game last night over in Florida against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the shot count was anything but close as the Hurricanes put up a colossal 55 shots to Tampa’s 26 in that game along with 42 faceoffs won as well.
That puts Carolina 3rd in the league this season in terms of overall shot count, but their conversion percentage on those shots leaves a lot to be desired, connecting on just 8.14% on average, the 4th lowest mark in the league.

We have to look towards taking the Carolina Hurricanes in regulation tonight at home against the Buffalo Sabres. Carolina’s numbers are just far superior to the Sabres this season, despite Buffalo’s mini-hot streak of late.
The Hurricanes rank #2 on fewest shots allowed this year, #3 on overall defensive xGA, and #1 on opponent high-danger scoring opportunities as well.
Carolina have also won 12 of the last 13 meetings between the two sides so expect another comprehensive victory in regulation for the Hurricanes on Friday.
