THE PLAY: Kazuma Okamoto Hits + Runs + RBIs Over 1.5 (100) Action
Toronto's Kazuma Okamoto has been one of the most boom-or-bust performers at the plate this season, but he's in a boom phase right now and we're looking to capitalize on this run. Okamoto enters Wednesday in the bottom-10th percentile among hitters in strikeout rate and whiff rate as he is getting called out on strikes in over 31-percent of his plate appearances. But when he makes contact, the ball is traveling. Over his last three games, Okamoto has gone 6-for-10 with two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored. Strikeouts are certainly a concern, but Okamoto does have a knack for drawing walks and he's walked three times in the first two games of this series against the Astros. Okamoto is hitting .273 with a .346 on-base percentage at home compared to a .207 batting average with a .305 on-baser percentage on the road. Thirteen of his 17 home runs this season have come against right-hand pitching, which is what he will see tonight against Houston's Mike Burrows. The 26-year-old has struggled this season with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. Burrows was sent down to the bullpen last week to "work on some stuff" but he was recalled to the starting rotation for this one as Houston is in the midst of 13-straight days with a game, which is taking a lot out of the Astros' rotation. Burrows hasn't gone past the fifth inning in his last three starts. As we mentioned, strikeouts are a big concern for Okamoto but Burrows only has 12 strikeouts in his last 16.0 innings pitched and he's not generating many swings-and-misses this season. Okamoto has cleared this hits + runs + RBI prop seven times in his last ten games.
THE PLAY: Both Teams to Score
With the top spot in Group A already secured, conventional wisdom would suggest that Mexico is going to rotate its lineup ahead of Wednesday's clash with Czechia. That will likely be the case, but with the desire to put on an entertaining show at Estadio Azteca, we're still expecting to see some goals in this matchup. El Tri has adopted a defense-first mindset under third-term manager Javier Aguirre and the Mexicans have not allowed a goal through the first two games of the tournament. This current edition of the Mexican National Team is missing some of the firepower on offense that previous versions have featured, but nonetheless, the players that take the field in this contest will be looking to generate a memorable moment at one of the world's historic cathedrals. With the top spot already locked up, Aguirre will likely allow his team a little more freedom in this match. The defensive intensity will likely take a back seat as Mexico has already seen a red card in this tournament and Brian Gutiérrez is sitting on a yellow card, which would potentially keep him out of the Round of 32. Czechia is one of the weaker teams in this event, but the Czechs have scored in each of their first two matches against South Korea and South Africa. He looks a little out-of-form at the moment, but Patrik Schick is still one of the most dangerous strikers in this tournament. Both teams to score has cashed in Czechia's last six matches. The Czechs need a win to secure a spot in the knockout round, and that should create some end-to-end action. At the time of posting, both teams to score is available at:
