THE PLAY: F5 Los Angeles Angels -104 Andrew Painter (RHP), Reid Detmers (LHP) Must Start

The Angels are the lowest scoring home team in all of baseball (3.57 runs per game). The Phillies are bottom five when it comes to scoring on the road (4.05 rpg). From that perspective, tonight's series opener in Anaheim seems like a "wash."

But I simply trust Angels' starter Reid Detmers a lot more than I trust Phillies' starter Andrew Painter. Detmers has allowed 3 ER or less in seven straight starts. He's allowed zero runs total over his L2 starts. At home this season, Detmers has a 0.95 WHIP. Painter, while he's been a bit better lately, still has a 6.04 ERA and 1.48 WHIP.

I want no part of the Angels' bullpen, so I'd simply recommend betting the F5 in this one. Sure, the Angels rarely give Detmers much in the way of run support, but the southpaw should be able to - at least - keep his team even through five innings on Friday night.

Consultant Bio

After spending the previous decade at Covers Experts, Bryan Power has wasted little time establishing himself here at WagerTalk. A consistent winner since first emerging on the scene back in 2011, Power didn't have a single losing calendar year in his first decade as a pro handicapper!  In April & May of this year (2022), he went on an amazing 154-99-2 (+$41,322) with all plays! October is when he truly made his mark at WT, at one point cashing 22 of 26 plays (85%).

Power handicaps football (both NFL and college), basketball (NBA and college), MLB, Soccer (most major European leagues), and the UFC. He uses a personal set of power ratings, combined with situational handicapping, to make his selections. Multiple bets per day across multiple sports are the norm. Client plays are rated 3%-5%.
