I said this before yesterday's series opener: “The Padres are off a 5-2 win over the Yankees. Now they take a big step down in class to take on the Marlins. This is a matchup which San Diego needs to take advantage of. A sweep here could potentially see them gain some ground in the NL West; the Dodgers are playing the Mets, the Giants are facing the Phillies and the Dbax will be taking on Texas …” The Padres ended up winning 2-1. The light-hitting Marlins are now just 19-36 on the season. While he's been pitching really well at home recently, Luzardo has a poor 7.59 ERA and 1.781 WHIP on the road. Waldron has a 2.81 ERA his past three starts, holding the Dodgers, Braves and Reds each to two runs or less. Over those three starts, a span of 16 innings, he struck out 23 batters.
