Winnipeg Jets vs Minnesota Wild Betting Analysis
The surging Minnesota Wild finally ran into a roadblock on Tuesday night as they suffered a 1-0 shootout loss against the Calgary Flames.
Filip Gustavsson was again electric in that game, along with Jacob Markstrom at the other end, shutting out the Flames across 26 shots allowed and currently ranks 3rd in the league in GSAA average this year behind only the Islander’s Ilya Sorokin and Boston’s Linus Ullmark also.
That loss snapped a previous four-game winning streak for the Wild, something Jets fans haven’t been all that accustomed to this year, with Winnipeg dropping eight of their last ten games overall, including a tough 3-2 OT loss against the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
Minnesota have won both of their two recent matchups against Winnipeg this season by convincing margins, blowing them out 6-1 over in Saint-Paul back in November, and again in this very same venue 4-1 back in late December also.
Under The Way To Go In Minnesota Games
With Filip Gustavsson continuing to get it done in nets this season, and Marc-Andre Fleury as a solid partner, it’s been no surprise to see Minnesota Wild games consistently come in under the total this year.
12 of the last 13 Minnesota Wild games have featured five goals or less and the Wild have gone a staggering 38-18-2 to the under in their last 58 games overall as well.
Home Form Remains Key
Despite December’s 4-1 loss in this venue against the Minnesota Wild, the home team has generally dominated this series over the last few seasons, winning 21 of the previous 29 meetings between the pair.
Even in that loss in December, the Jets put up more shots than the Wild in that game only to be let down by a rare off-night from Conor Hellebuyck.
This hasn’t happened all too often this season with the Michigan native ranking as the 5th best goalie in the league this season with a +20.82 GSAA average.
Winnipeg Jets vs Minnesota Wild Prediction
Even with no Gustavsson expected in nets tonight for the Wild (Fleury slated to start at time of writing), that shouldn’t make a massive impact as Fleury has averaged a .957 SV% across his last three starts and looked excellent against Vancouver last week also.
On top of that, Minnesota rank top three in the league in both opponent shots allowed this year and high-danger chances allowed also, so he has plenty of protection at the back.
Winnipeg meanwhile, with Hellebuyck in nets, boast the league’s eighth lowest opponent shot conversion percentage this season along with ranking 2nd on opponent power-play goals against as well.
Minnesota have been a phenomenal under team this year and we simply don’t want to step in front of that train tonight, so we’re backing the under between the Minnesota Wild and the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.
Prediction: Under 5.5 (+100)
