Washington Capitals vs Minnesota Wild Betting Analysis

Two teams seemingly going in opposite directions clash on Tuesday night as the Minnesota Wild look to have turned things around with a mini two-game winning streak against the Islanders and Coyotes respectively, while the Washington Capitals have dropped two of their last three.

Washington’s home form has been a major problem for them over recent weeks, dropping four of their last six games in the Capital One Arena and they’ll be hoping for a bounce-back later tonight returning home after a come-from-behind win against the New York Islanders on Monday.

This will be the two teams first meeting so far this season with Minnesota winning both games in the series last year. However, the Capitals hold the advantage in this arena, winning seven of their last ten against the Wild in this venue.

Gustavsson Roars Into Second Place

Minnesota Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson now ranks 2nd in the league in terms of goals against average in nets this season behind only Boston’s Linus Ullmark, boasting a red-hot 2.17 GAA on the year.

That was helped by another strong performance against the Islanders last Thursday with Gustavsson allowing just one goal with a .950 SV% as he remains one of the most in-form goalies in the league right now.

Capitals Getting Solid Production From Ovechkin

Despite their 3-1 loss in their last home game against the Philadelphia Flyers over the weekend, the one constant for the Capitals has been that Alex Ovechkin found the back of the net yet again in that game.

Ovechkin now ranks as the league’s joint-4th highest goalscorer this season with 30 goals overall and the veteran will no doubt be looking to add to that tally even further here on Tuesday against the Wild.

Washington Capitals vs Minnesota Wild Prediction

It’s very difficult to split either team ahead of this one in what should be an extremely competitive game here on Tuesday night in Washington. With that said, we’re going to swerve the side here and look towards taking the under 6 goals instead.

Minnesota rank top five in the league this season on both defensive xGA and high-danger scoring opportunities allowed also, and face a Washington Capitals team who also rank inside that top five bracket in opponent high-danger scoring chances allowed as well.

The Under has gone 8-1-1 in the last ten meetings between the two teams in Washington and we expect another low-scoring affair here on Tuesday also.
