Contreras has covered this HRR line in 51% of his games on the season including 4 of his last 5 games. Now the Red Sox slugger gets another crack at Nick Martinez who he’s gone 3-7 (.429) against with a home run and a free pass.

We have mentioned Martinez being overdue for some regression with an ERA of 2.29 but an xERA of 4.53. That regression reared its ugly head in his last start as Martinez allowed 6 earned runs on 9 hits across 4 innings of work against the Detroit Tigers.

Since May 1st, the Rays bullpen ranks below average in both ERA (19th 4.15) and WHIP (17th 1.27). Contreras is projected to bat cleanup tonight, and he’ll be guaranteed a full 9 innings of at-bats against some vulnerable pitching.
