All-star Casey Mize starts for Detroit against a Pirates team that has now gone scoreless in the first inning in 15 straight games.
Mize has held opponents scoreless in the first inning in 14 of his 16 starts on the season and has allowed just one earned run over his last two road starts (12 IP).
Veteran Mitch Keller starts for Pittsburgh and although his record sits at just 3-10, he posts a 1.44 ERA across the last month.
The Tigers were shutout by the Pirates yesterday and have now scored just three total runs over their last four games in which none came in the first inning.
These two teams still rank top ten in NRFI results this season so let’s take this Tigers vs Pirates matchup to result in a NRFI once again tonight with odds listed at -135.
NRFI Best Bet Today #2: Milwaukee Brewers vs Seattle Mariners (-160)
Rookie sensation Jacob Misiorowski gets the start tonight for Milwaukee in Seattle taking on Logan Gilbert and the Mariners.
Misiorowski has had his struggles on the road this season, but the Mariners have had their problems hitting at home.
Seattle has been held scoreless in the first inning in 82% of their home games and bat just .225 at home which is tied for second worst of all MLB teams when playing at home. It’s also worth noting the Mariners have been held scoreless in the first inning in 12 straight games.
Although Gilbert has allowed a first inning run in 7 of his 12 starts this season he posts a 2.29 ERA in home starts while allowing opponents to bat .138 compared to on the road posting a 4.91 ERA and opponents batting .296.
