NRFI Best Bet Today #1: Detroit Tigers vs Washington Nationals (Game 2, -140)

The Tigers and Nationals got rained out yesterday which gives us an enticing NRFI opportunity in game 2 of their double header set to start around 6:45PM ET.

Jack Flaherty takes the mound for Detroit and although his 5-9 record and 4.80 ERA doesn’t look appealing on the surface, he’s actually held opponents scoreless in the first inning in 14 of his 16 total starts on the season.

Current Nationals batters have collectively hit just .206 against Flaherty all-time and it’s worth noting that Washington has gone 8-2 to a NRFI in their last 10 games and have failed to score in the first inning in eight straight.

MacKenzie Gore gets the start for Washington sporting a 2.27 home ERA this season although his record stands at just 3-8.

He’s held opponents scoreless in the first inning in 13 of his 17 total starts with the top of the Tigers order usually filled with lefties including Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter and possibly Colt Keith as well.

They’ll likely do some lineup shuffling so this isn’t the case tonight, but it could be including batters in the top of the order that aren’t used to being there. Play on a Tigers vs Nationals NRFI to occur in game 2 of their double header with odds listed at -140.

NRFI Best Bet Today #2: Cleveland Guardians vs Chicago Cubs (-120)

The Guardians and Cubs played to a NRFI yesterday and we think it will happen again today in the second game of their series.

Tanner Bibee starts for Cleveland not allowing a first inning run in 11 of his 16 starts this season and although he does have minimal experience against current Cubs batters, they’re hitting just .118 against him collectively all-time.

On the season the Cubs offense has been stellar, but it’s been somewhat inconsistent as of late averaging just three runs per game across their last four if you take out their 12 run explosion they had at Houston last Saturday.

If you want to see inconsistent offense though, the Guardians have been brutal as of late averaging less than two runs per game during their current five-game losing streak and failing to score in the first inning in all five of those games.

It won’t get easier for them today though as lefty Shota Imanaga gets the start for Chicago who hasn’t allowed an earned run in seven of his nine starts this season.

He has allowed just two earned runs across his last three starts (15.2 IP) with the Guardians batting just .220 against lefties this season which ranks second to last in the MLB.

The Guardians sit second in NRFI results this season while failing to score in the first inning in 79% of their road games this season. Play on a Guardians vs Cubs NRFI to occur today with first pitch at 8PM ET and odds listed at -120.
